High idle means your getting too much air. if you have the air filter off, this could be causing the problem. with the throttle setting not working on a new carb, i don't know what else the problem could be. also make sure you have a good seal between your carb and the engine.

1989. Why does the idle speed increase when I push in on the clutch?

does you car go or try to go forward without being in the gear, if yes then it is sounds like time to change clutch plate or pressure plate, you can't check it yourself, need a mechanic

My husband touched the carb settings on my sons new 2007 ttr 50. I read the manual to try and find the number of turns to return to stock settings. Can you please please help!

The carb mixture screw may add air or fuel, depending on the model. If the bike will idle it can be adjusted without knowing the factory setting. What you want is the highest idle that can be achieved using just the mixture screw, not the idle setting screw. Start the motor, then slowly turn the mixture screw in. If the idle speed increases, continue in that direction. If it slows and becomes rough, turn the screw back out until you reach the highest idle speed. That will the correct setting for the bike at your altitude.

Revs high when i change gear

Is it possible the clutch pedal is interfering with the throttle? Start the engine in neutral and allow it to idle. Press only the clutch pedal down and see if this increase the engine speed. If it does speed up the engine and slows back down when you release the clutch then somehow this operation is where your fault lies. If it doesn't alter the idle speed, then rev your engine and release the throttle to see if it returns to idle immediately. If it is slow to return to idle then your throttle cable could be sticking. This means when you change gear lifting off the throttle has little effect and depressing the clutch to change gear causes the engine to race as the throttle is still partially open.

How to calibrate a carb for 1988 spectrum

It should have a base idle screw, and probably has an electric idle speed control motor that is adjustable.
You may need a shop manual to get the procedures.

When compressor gets to proper pressure and starts to kick down, it stalls

when the pressure reaches its max (abt 130psi)the unloader valve
slows down the speed of the compressor and relieves backpressure
on the pump. The carb has two idle speed screws. one is high speed
to build pressure, and the other is a low spd for when the pump doesn't have
a load. this screw is on the carb between the carb and the rocker
arm cover.turn it clockwise to increase the slow spd idle until it just stays

Bike dies when clutch in. When I engage the clutch to slow down at a stop light

You didn't say whether the bike is equipped with a carburetor or fuel injected. If it's fuel injected, you'll have to take it to a shop since the idle speed is electronically controlled. If it's equipped with a carb, the idle speed stop screw is at the top front of the carb. You may have to take the air cleaner cover off to see it. Turn the screw clockwise to raise the idle speed.

Good luck

Maved to augusta ga from las vegas nv. my 2004 fatboy when at idle will not stay running without the choke 1/3 out

If your carb is stock, it should have a #45 slow speed jet in it for this area. I'd go to either a #48 or a #50 slow jet. I live in Forsyth, Ga. and I usually put the #48 in most Twin Cam 88 bikes that have changed the exhaust or are popping back out of the carb. If you think this is the problem try changing the jet. I don't know what the altitude is in Las Vegas and I have no idea if Harley rejets the carb for different areas. The CV carb usually is not that sensitive to altitude like the older type carbs were. The Idle Speed Stop Screw is located at the top right of the carb. Turn the inwards (clockwise) to increase the idle speed.

If you bike is fuel injected, you'lll have to take it to a shop to have this problem corrected.

Good Luck

If your bike is carb equipped, remove the air filter cover and look at the top right of your carb. You'll see the idle speed stop screw there. Turn the screw slighly clockwise to increase the idle speed of the engine. If you bike is equipped with fuel injection, you'll have to take your bike to a dealer or independent shop that has the ability to make changes to the ECM.

Good Luck

My bike runs rough idleing and at slow speeds. It

Check for intake leaks where the carburetor manufolds connect to the heads, when it is running at idle dpray WD40 around the area if the idle increases there is a intake leak.
reolace the gasket/gaskets,and since the carb will be off clean it or have a mechanic do it.

Husqvarna 359: Has run fine for 3 years. Now when first starting idles fine but as soon as it warms up idle speed increases enough to continually engage the clutch. Carb. setting have never been changed...

I think an air leak and she is running lean. Maybe time for some pressure/vacuum testing. Continuing to tweak the carburetor may camouflage a larger problem until the saw fails.
