Question about Nikon COOLPIX L3 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Nikkor lense I have a AF-S DX Zoom Nikkor ED 18-70mm lense. Up to now it has been good for me. Now I have a problem. When I take indoor shots the lense will not focus in it spins like it is trying to focus but thats all it does is spin back and forth. Sometimes it will take (allow) a picture and the picture is very blurry. I have no idea how this happened. I don't know too much about lenses and this is baffling me, especially since I don't have any trouble shooting or focusing outside. Outside it zooms in and focus' and a crisp picture is shot. But indoors is another thing. Please help.

    This is to cammedics question.

I took the lens off and when I look in the part that attaches to the camera I see a small hole (seven sided). Also, the digital camera is a Nikon D200.

Ok, Do you still see the 7 sided hole (the aperture) when the lens is on the camera?

Assuming you don't have a polarizer on the lens, what do you see looking at through the lens while it is off the camera? Is it all glass or can you the aperture?

The camera is most likely a nikon... but the model may make a difference.

Possible internal damage in the gearing.

Possible also to try to reset the camera settings, that may or may not help in this case.

What is 55-200mm?

That's the focal range of a zoom lens. Unlike a single focal-length lens (or a "prime" lens) a zoom lens lets you adjust the focal range. "55-200mm" specifies the lens's focal range from 55mm at the low end to 200mm at the long end.

You can read a general description of zoom lenses at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoom_lens

Nikon current has two different 55-200mm lenses:

If you're asking about the L110, it has a permanently-affixed lens and will not use either of the above lenses.

I have a Nikon D3100 and want to buy a zoom lens 70-300.Please help I am confused is a Nikon AF Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6G compatible? And is it automatic focus?

That lens will work with the D3100, except for the autofocusing. In order to autofocus with the D3100, you need AF-S lenses, such as the AF-S VR Zoom-NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED or the
AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR.

The internal circuit board, or the internal harness may be at fault. You will have to send the lens to Nikon for service.
