Cloning a drive cant be done very easily manually, you have to replicate the MBR, the boot files to the start of the drive and copy the system files in the correct manor.

Alternativly, you can read this blog that explains about some free tool

I want to format my 2 T hard drive from NTSF to fat 32 , how to do please help

Ok this fix will erase all Partitions on the drive, Make sure you have all data back'd up.
Open Command:
Go to Start menu > All programs > Accessories, right click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator. Or Type cmd in Start menu search box and hit Ctrl+ Shift+ Enter.
You should have a black MS-DOS prompt on your screen. Type DISKPART in and press enter. Another window will open
Type: list disk It will the display list of devices with memory storage. Find your disk, It should be in a Table(kinda). You have to locate it by its size. so look for 1TB(1000GB) In this Example its Disk 2, yours may differ.
type in: Select disk 2
Execute the rest one by one: CLEAN CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY SELECT PARTITION 1 FORMAT FS=FAT32 ASSIGN EXIT
Wait for one command to complete before running another
You should be left with a working FAT32 Device :P

Anyone loses data from time to time, even if we do not want to. It just happened. You can lose data from a hard drive, from a diskette or from a removable media (portable hard drive, pen drive, etc, memory card, etc). You can lose or delete the files, by mistake.
Well here is a quite easy solution for recovering deleted or lost files. The name of the software is GetDataBack. It has two versions: for FAT and NTFS. You have to use the appropriate version for the file structure of the device.
Here are several links for downloading each version of the software:
-for FAT: ntfs.software.informer.com/2.3/">http://getdataback-for-ntfs.software.informer.com/2.3/(version 2.31)
http://getdataback-for-fat.en.softonic.com/ (version 3.64)
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Back-Up-and-Recovery/GetDataBack-For-FAT.shtml (version 4)
-for NTFS: http://getdataback-for-fat.software.informer.com/2.3/(version 2.31)
ntfs-3.64_1570404.html">http://download.chip.eu/ro/GetDataBack-for-ntfs-3.64_1570404.html (version 3.64)
ntfs.shtml">http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Back-Up-and-Recovery/GetDataBack-for-ntfs.shtml (version 4)

After downloading the application you are ready to recover files from static or removable devices. If you chose to recover files from a removable device plug the device before starting the program. The first screen that appears looks like this:
522e112.jpg
The picture shows all the storage devices from your computer. To continue the recovery process press Next. The window will look like this:056482f.jpg
In this window you have to choose the device you want to recover files from. Select the logical drive; in the right panel there will appear details about the specific device.2b47ded.jpg
The window from the following step looks like this:
c8fe86f.jpg
In this window you can select to search the entire drive or just a part from it.Also you can choose the file systemof the device, a template, and an older saved recovery.
After clicking next the software will analyze your device, and you will see in another window the sectors from the device. If you see a complete row of 0 then the recovery from your device will not be possible. The window will look like this:
f09f6ce.jpg
After the analysis of the device a windows will appear and you have to select the File System. In the right panel you will see the details of the File System.Select the file system from the left panel and press Next.
There will be an extra window creating the log file and the list of the files from the device. The program will try to restore the structure of the folders and sub folders. The window will scroll the list of all the files and folders from the device.38437b6.jpg
In the next windows you will see the file and folder structure and the files from your device. Select the files you need and then select COPY them to a location on your hard drive. The window looks like this:
7fb25bf.jpg
Of course you can copy all the content of the device. There will be an extra window that will show you the progress of the process. You maybe asked different things about the process(replacing files, or skipping some files, etc).
2f98606.jpg
The window shows the path for the future documents and the folders from which the software will copy.PLEASE read the CAUTION: NEVER specify a directory on the drive you are going to recover!!!
Select OK and the copying process will begin. The time of the copying process depends on the size of the files you are recovering. It could take a few seconds, several minutes, or a couple of hours.
When the copying process will be complete that extra window will disappear. To see the files you just recovered, go to the location you copied them. If you forgot to copy something you can copy after the first process, because the main window will not shut down.
The process for NTFS file system is the same. The steps are the same. And again at the end the window will not shut down so you can copy other files after the first process.
You can easily recover data from any device. Just be careful at the file system of the device and do not forget the location you copied them.

Can not copy outlook messages

It looks like your external hard disk in FAT32 system and outlook messages file .PST is more then 4GB.

To know the file system of the Hard Disk right click on the drive select properties.

Check your file system first. FAT32 will not support more than file size of 4GB.

There are 2 options to copy.

1. Split the .PST in to 2 or more outlook data file

or

2. Convert the FAT32 System to NTFS.

To convert from FAT32 to NTFS. go to following link

I cannot copy files FROM my Western Digital 500GB

Hi,

Check the file system of your hard drive. If your PC is recognizing it, check if its a FAT or NTFS. If it is NTFS then you have to reformat it using your Mac and choose FAT. Mac OS recognizes NTFS as a read only drive. If you plan using it with your PC and MAC you should format it using your mac and choose MS-DOS in disc Utility. You cannot format the drive using your PC Computer with a FAT file system because of the capacity. Only Mac can format it with a FAT file system.

Greetings.

files bigger than 4 gigs cannot be save on fat32 drives. NTFS file system is capable of saving files bigger than 4 gigs.

The MAC - to PC did nothing to change it. It did not change while she look it at her pc.

If u want to be able to copy files bigger than 4 gigs to your drive, change the format to ntfs.

  • It is easy to convert partitions to NTFS. The Setup program makes conversion easy, whether your partitions used FAT, FAT32, or the older version of NTFS. This kind of conversion keeps your files intact (unlike formatting a partition). If you do not need to keep your files intact and you have a FAT or FAT32 partition, it is recommended that you format the partition with NTFS rather than convert from FAT or FAT32. Formatting a partition erases all data on the partition and allows you to start with a clean drive. Whether a partition is formatted with NTFS or converted using the convert command, NTFS is the better choice of file system. For more information about Convert.exe, after completing Setup, click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then press ENTER. In the command window, type help convert and then press ENTER.

Hard drive goes out in the middle of copying

Most of the time the problem can be solved by using a cable that is really short and of good quality.

or try another usb slot and see whether the problem repeats.

Now if the external drive is FAT (most of them come from factory as FAT formatted) and u are trying to copy files grater than 4GB, it will fail as FAT cannot recognize files larger than 4GB. SO you may try to format the external drives into NTFS, if thats the case.
