dsimba2002 thank you for your answer.
    No, it is not broken.
When I insert a disc on the player the dispay works ok.After a few seconds, the dispay turns off. When I use the "display" button on the remote, the dispay works ok for a few seconds.

Is there any other way to fix the problem than to open the deck?

My dvd player is stuck on one dvd and wont let me eject, change disc, or even stop the current dvd. display reads "locked" whenever i press any buttons. can only turn on and off the device.

Hi, For some reason the disk will not play. You push the eject button over and over again, but the disk slot will not open. Here's one solution...
* 1 Turn off the DVD player. Wait a few minutes, turn the DVD player back on, and
then press the "eject" button. If this does not work, turn it off and unplug
the DVD player...while you keep pushing EJECT button plug the DVD and turn it on (your hand still on the eject..) is should come out..
* 2 ..if it does not eject , unplug the DVD player again, Remove the screws off DVD on the sides and take off the DVD casing.
* 3 Look for the DVD holder inside the DVD player. This device holds the DVD in
place while the DVD player reads the disk.
* 4 Push the stuck DVD disk toward the front of the DVD player until the DVD
ejects. Remember the DVD player is not on and some force ( gentle ! ) must be applied.
* 5 While it is open, plug it on and place a DVD disc just to see if mechanism works properly..
* 6 Replace the casing and the screws. Plug the player in and turn it on. Put
another DVD in to test whether the player is finally working ..
Hope this helps!..
Take care and please

The DVD side will not recognise any disk i offer it to record to it shows a circle with a red x on it dislays that the disk is blank on the front panel

Make sure you are using the right kind of discs check the manual My player will only play the philips brand blank dvds. Also clean the player with a philips lens cleaning disc if that does not work you may, as I had, a hair on the disc spinner inside the player that caused errors.
hope this helps

Turns on but no buttons work at all.

Un plug it. Remove the screws from the bottom and back. Slide the cover off.

Look at the keypad in front. Could be a loose cable or the cover is not sitting on the front properly.

Good Luck

Need help charging my mintek dvd player battery

The way the battery is usually charged is by plugging it into the player and plugging the player into the a/c outlet. Do not use the player, Just allow the player to charge the battery. The way you tell if the charging is working is the light on the front will usually be a red color and it will be steady color or blinking while charging. When the battery is fully charged, the light will turn green or turn off . This lets you know that the battery has fully charged. To test this try using the dvd player on the battery only. Play a dvd or cd and see if the battery is working properly. I hope this information helps you with your problem.

Have you or have someone bench tested it before installation? It is much easier to diagnose for problem when you bench test.
