This camera uses SD cards, which top out at 2GB. Are you trying to use a larger card (technically, an SDHC card)?

The C743 works with MMC and SD cards, not with SDHC cards. While SDHC cards will fit into the slot, they are electronically incompatible. You need to go with cards 2GB and smaller.

1. with no card in the camera, go into the menu and find "format"...follow the on-screen instructions to erase the internal memory.
2. insert the card and do the "format" thing again from the menu as you just did for the internal memory.

No. Can you get into the camera menu when you turn the camera on? If so, go to "format" by way of the menu rather than clicking on continue. Also, be sure the slide switch on the side of the card is in the unlocked position.

Can i use a 4gb memory card

http://www.kodak.com/global/plugins/acrobat/en/service/manuals/urg00606/C743_GLB_en.pdf

P.50 of the above manual has a table that goes up to 1 GB for an SD card.

But, the FAQ's say that Easy Share cameras can use up to 2 Gigabytes for the SD cards.

Since your camera is from an XP Windows System era, I wouldn't expect that a 4 gb SD card would work in your camera (since it is that old).

http://selfservice.kodak.com/service/panels/solution/printSolution.jsp?solutionId=1170&t=solutionTab&ft=searchTab&ps=solutionPanels&locale=en_US&_dyncharset=UTF-8&viewMode=NORMAL&windowType=SAME&highlightInfo=&isRecord=false

The FAQ seems to indicate, again, that 2 Gigabytes is the maximum for an SD card (which your C743 digital camera uses).

The instruction manual seems to indicate that 1 Gigabyte is the max in the table.

Therefore, I would try the 2 Gigabyte one and if it doesn't read or format, then I would use the 1 Gigabyte as the max. for this camera, and return the 2 Gigabyte SD card.

I just bought an hp 4 gig sdhc memory card for my kodak easyshare c743 camera. Will it work or should i return it?

The C743 works with MMC and SD cards, not with SDHC card. Your 4GB card will not work in it. You can return it or, if you have another device which can use SDHC cards, keep it.

Have a Kodak EasyShare C743, bought a SanDisk, won't format

Your camera was designed before the SDHC format came out. Sorry, your camera can only use standard SD cards, those usually 2GB or less. An SDHC card will not be recognized properly by your camera. If you really want to use a 4GB card, do a Google search for SD and "non hc", with the non hc in quotes. Believe that Transcend makes one.

Won't format new memory card

Your camera is not SDHC compatible. It will only support standard SD cards. Sorry.

I hope this helps.
