Question about Vacuums

The power brush floor rug attachment on my Eureka 6997 A Oxygen Canister Vacuum goes on an off as I use it. I replaced the The power cord from the handle has 2 plug in connections: 1 at the handle / upper wand 1 at the lower wand top of the power brush attachment I replaced the entire wand assembly and it worked great for a year or so and now it's doing the same thing again. I was told to keep the power switch on the handle set to off when connecting the power brush attachment or it will burn out the plug connections on the wand. I've been doing that.

I've checked all of the connections and one thing that I noticed is that the 2 prongs on the power brush male plug that plug into the lower wand female plug seem to be rusty. I know it isn't rust but it's due to the unit going on and off (or shorting out?). I cleaned the two prongs with steel wool and removed the 'rust'. Now one of them has rust on it again only after using the vacuum for a few days.

This is from the prongs not making a good connection causing an arch inside the plugg causing what looks like rust on the plugg. I would try snugging up the connection by squeezing the female section to get a better connection on the prongs when it is plugged in together.

Hi, First I would check all of the connections you have on the wand and plugs. If it goes on and off it sounds as though you just have a bad or loose connection on it. Look it over good, and be sure it is unplugged if you are working with exposed wires. I don't believe the switch is burned out, but check the wiring to it. I believe you can solve this without replacing the whole thing again. Please keep me posted.
Sincerely,
Shastalaker7
PS Going on and off indicates a loose connection.

Hi, I am sorry, I have been out of town for several days on a job in Northern Ca. The plugs that you have cleaned are arcing and does look like rust. Something is going on with these plugs even if they are tight causing the arcing. I have no idea if you are mechanically inclined John, I believe you are from talking with you online. What I would try if the vacuum is set up this way, I don't know but you would, is to go to you're local hardware store and purchase new male and female plugs for you're vac. Take your cutters and cut the old ones off, strip back the cord wiring and use a driver from screw to screw and replace them. If you have room on your vacuum this will work., but only if you have room. Or, maybe you can replace just the male or female for a better fit. If you have plenty of cord to work with, I would do this. I bet this will solve your problem as these connections are worn internally. Or, you can replace the wand again and go from there? I would try putting on new ends and bet you will have no problems doing it yourself!! On these 3 wire plugs they have a silver screw for the white or neutral wire, the brass colored is for the hot, and green is the ground. If your vac has only 2 wires and they are both black, they will go on either one of the silver or brass. Try this John and let me know. I will be here to help if you need me.
    Sincerely,
    Shastalaker7

Dyson dc23 canister rug attachment loses power after about 5 seconds, push red button and restarts for less time. After 3 or 4 trys of it working for seconds it just doesn't turn on again. Reall

Hi Elizabeth, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm glad to hear you've been in touch already and we're able to resolve the issue under your machine's 5-year guarantee.

In most cases, the issue you've described will be caused by something jamming the brush bar. It can usually be resolved by clearing the brush bar of any debris, threads or hair, and checking the Motorhead for any obstructions, as shown in the video below.

If you'd like further help and advice with your machine at any point, please get in touch with us.

Best wishes,

Jack

does your vacuum have an adjuster knob on the front? if so try raising the unit so that the brushes don't bind up on the rug and burn out the belt

Bissell Lift OfF Brush Roller Stops Rotating

They make the worst machines, the rollers are cheap and they make it so you cant take them apart to clean them. You don't want a dyson either, they aren't any better for pets. With all that hardwood floors you should get a good canister vacuum, sebo and miele are the best.

Drive belt ; whirlewind litespeed.

There is nothing but the motor shaft. The belt rides on the shaft and around the brush assembly on the other end. The belts fail if the brush assembly gets jammed, for example from a rug ot debris. If this occurs you should immediately turn off the unit, unplug the power cord, and clear the jam. Also occasionally cleaning the brush and being sure the bearings on each end turn freely will help prolong belt life. The brush assemblies also look to be available. lysager@gmail.com

Cords for an Eureka Oxygen 6992A

Yes, that short cord in the power nozzle can be replaced and BOTH wands should also be replaced, not just the one that appears burnt. If your locan vac shop won't fix it, contact Eureka at the customer service number on the bottom of your vacuum. They will most likely set you up with the correct parts.

Vacuum cleaner

I need to buy a vacuum cleaner - the flooring in our house is mainly Oregon pine with loose rugs. I suffer from back problems and find the cylinder vacuums cause a great deal of back strain. I have been told that an upright vacuum is not suitable for wooden floors - I would appreciate any advice, particularly if you knows of an upright vacuum cleaner that works well on wooden floors. Thank you

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Well, I can think of a couple of solutions for you and I hope they will help. #1. The first thing that came to mid was to stick with the canister vacuum with good suction but instead of dragging the canister vacuum around and having it irritate your back problems you can have a longer hose made in the length that would be comfortable for you and to use not a vinyl brush with black bristles, instead you can use a good horsehair brush of which is better for the wood floors and will not scratch the wood floors. #2. It does not have a lot of suction but id you buy an electric broom like Hoover or Eureka you can convert the plastic tool that comes with it from the factory and use and adaptor and install a good horsehair brush, it like an upright but the cord is much shorter, you may have to use an extension cord. #3. if you own your own home you can install to your existing home a central vac with a 30 or 35 foot house with wands and a horsehair brush and then you can go in any direction but then your hose is much longer. Or you can shorten your hose to 20 or 25 feet , but then you are adding more inlets to your existing home, it is up to you. A central vac straight suction is less than an est of $750.00 or less depending on the unit your purchase but a lot easier and all your got to do is empty the bag or dirt cup from out in the garage and the sound is also out in the garage or down the basement . A local vacuum cleaner dealer can assist you with any of the 3 choices that I suggested. I hope this will help you. So, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Thanks, Don the Vac Man

Losing power to stick/floor vacuum

if you have an extension wand, the replacement will cost about $100.00. there is a way to repair both the pwr-cord on the brush assemble and the wand, but it depends on how much damage there is. also you need to check the contacts where the wand connects with the handle, and the prongs on the handle.

let me know if you still need help
