Cleaning the separator

I just got a used Rainbow E series. I was trying to remove the separator to clean it (like told to do in owners manual). I can get the nut off the bolt but can't remove the separator from the unit. Any suggestions?

Try spraying something like WD40 around the shaft, then if you have to, use 2 small flat blades that will fit under the edge of the separator and keep working it until it pops loose. It is just crude and calcium from water that is keeping it on.

I solved this problem by using a paint can opener, using a gentle prying motion working my way around the separator. This was on a used vacuum I purchased which was quite dirty. I think that may have contributed to it being stuck.

I just ran my rainbow e series accidentally without the separator. What should I do?

Your Rainbow should be o.k if you completely dried it out. But rinsing the hepa filter has usually not worked out well for most people (soory for that news) but good news is that they should last around 8 to 10 years with no rinsing.

I have a Rainbow E series. The separator is broken. I removed the acron nut but the separator won't come off. Is it ok to pry it off from bottom?

It's ok to pry on it if you're careful. Tap it too, use a screwdriver handle and just go around it and tap judiciously. When you're prying, be sure that if something is going to break it's the separator and not the machine housing.

Clean the shaft well before putting the new separator on, it's a pretty close fit and you don't want crud in it, and be sure the threads are clean and dry before putting the acorn nut on.

My e series rainbow smells very badly... my teenager often leaves the water in for days and that nasty smell has saturated the sweeper itself. How do I get the smell out

You should always put a new hepa filter in any E and E2 series Rainbow vacuum, when it taken to a new home, or every two Years, or so, or if your Doughter makes it get funky smelling. :-) It will smell like the home that it was in, or how ever it smells, until you do.

You can also use fragrances, and deodorizer air freshener in your vacuum, which not only eliminates odors, it add fresh aromas to your air that you breath, in your home, also.

Replace the hepa filter first thing.

The water separator is the thing that spins in the center of the motor where your water basin attaches to it. It looks like a cone shaped fan looking thing. It should be cleaned after every use.

Use your Rainbow separator cleaning brush, or a tooth brush, if you do not have the Rainbow one. They are just like tooth brushes.

Never store your Rainbow canister on your water basin, with or without water in it. It can and will ruin your vacuum in dew time.

My kids were in charge of the Rainbow, but they moved out. My husband surprised me by cleaning a dirty rug. Neither of us know how to use the Rainbow, but I at least know that you're supposed to use water....

Your Rainbow might have been damaged. It would be advisable to take the machine to a shop and have them do a cleaning on it. The water is the filter, and there is a separator between the water and the motor. The separator only prevents the water from entering the motor. The dirt that goes in the water is no longer airbourne, so it cannot enter. Without water, the dirt is still airbourne and some of it could have entered. I am sure that most of what was picked up landed in the basin. Is the separator(the little nut on the bottom of cleaner holds this in) full of fluff? Take off the separator nut(there should be a wrench/toothbrush tucked in under the cleaner that is used to remove separator and clean it.) Is there fluff visible up in the machine? If so, definitely take it to a shop. The separator must be cleaned after every use. Never store water in the basin. Those are the 2 main rules for care and use of your Rainbow. Well, good luck with your Rainbow. They are truly great vacuums. Let me know if this helped you. Thanks Rene(the VAcuum Doctor)

Water leaking from out of the heppa filter

Reasons for that to happen:
a) You have tilted the vac while vacuuming
b) Used the Rainbow without separator (basket like thing on the bottom of the motor)
c) Overfilled the rainbow tank with water (may have happened when shampooing with AquaMate)

Clean and install back the separator, remove HEPA, Set the Rainbow on empty water pan (with HEPA removed) turn it on for a while so everything will dry. Install new HEPA.

You will have to get a new HEPA filter (you can find them HERE)

Good Luck,
Rocky

Cleaning the filter on a e series rainbow vacuum

This one does not have the tabs to depress as but has two screws in that area still doesn’t see how to get to the filter. Also I need instructions to replace power cord; On the E series single speed.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. On the Rainbow E Series there really is no actual filter – the water is the filter for this particular vacuum. Before you remove the separator under the motor, place a newspaper or towel under the Rainbow without the water pan under the vacuum and then turn it on for a short period of time and spin the water moisture out of the motor and separator; then some of the maintenance is to remove the separator under the motor and clean that and then replace it. As far as replacing the cord there are screws under the Rainbow that need removal and then you can get to the end of the cord for replacement. The easiest way is to mark your wires and the cord will be much easier to replace otherwise check the owner’s manual for cord replacement or check with your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or to cal the cust serv @ the Rainbow factory for questions.

Changing the filter in Rainbow e series

Some of the e-series has a corrugated filter in the top section. To get to it, remove the clear plastic panels that are the sides. Most have 3 screws on each side to move, then the top half will come loose. There also is filter on the back, there is a door to remove to get to it.

Rainbow e series

If you have the Rainbow e series, then this manual will explain exactly how to remove the separator from the wash basin and the basin from the caddy. (Please refer to page 6)
http://www.rainbowsystem.com/pdf/manuals/rainbow_eseries/eseries.pdf A special tool is stored on the underside of the power unit next to the separator , which you can use to loosen the brass nut holding the separator.
The manual also provides instructions on how to remove the basin and clean it.

In my opinion, it is most likely a blockage in the tubes that must be causing this problem. This seems to be a common issue with this cleaner. There is also a small metal ring between the separator and basin that may be dislodged and causing this problem. Please the manual for an idea of what I am talking about.

If that does not help, then its best to contact the customer support.call, (248) 643-7222,

Older Rainbow Noisy
Posted by Capt_Troll on May 06, 2008
I Have an Older Rainbow (i think it's a d4)
my Old roommate ran it once without water.
it Still works now (with water), but
it's Very noisy on start up
Also I Can't seem to remove the separator (no instructions) but the nut at the end of it appears to free spin the motor when i try to turn it.
Can I Take this apart and Clean/lube it? And if so how? Or is this thing on its last legs? Thanks

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Rainbow E Series Canister Wet/Dry Vacuum. The Rainbow D4 is an older Rainbow Vacuum and the part where the separator is part of the armature, the separator should be able to be removed and that might be one of the things making noise. As normal maintenance the separator should be removed and cleaned after every use and re-installed, then place a newspaper or towel under the motor unit and turn on the Rainbow and spin the moisture out of the motor unit. This should be done every time you use it. Other wise the Rainbow has 3 fans in the bottom of the motor and if they are weak they will make noise from the motor unit as well. Watch out… the repair of the Rainbow D4 may exceed the cost of a new motor of which will solve your problem of noise and separator --- compare the cost and the labor and make a decision. If you have further questions please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer. .
