Question about Goodman GMS90703BXA Heater

1 Answer

Furnace was blowing cold only, now no power at all. Code indicates control failure. Can't get it to reset.

I have no power at all now. I have tried to restart it with no luck. The error code light is black, not on. Which according to the key is control failure. I know after 3 tries it locks itself out, but I should be able to reset it by turning the power switch off and then on again right? I've done that several times and nothing happens. Checked all fuses and fuse box, everything is good.

It could possibly be the igniter itself. When the furnace turns on does the igniter start glowing after about 15 seconds? The comes on so that is telling me the control circuitry is ok, I would definitley check the igniter. Here is a parts list for Goodman Furnaces.

Good luck man.

Try locating a small bi-metal thermostat with a tiny button on it. This will reset the thermostat and allow power to be supplied to the unit. They look like this.

If this does not work the main limit may be tripped. This would be reset by cycling the power to the furnace. It may be a combonation of both however. If the main limit is stuck you can jump across the two terminals with an INSULATED screw driver. If it turns on then your main limit switch needs replaced. BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN DOING THIS THIS IS A SHOCK HAZARD. The main limit switch looks like this.

Home furnace comfortmaker blowing cold air

Home owner's manual? Troubleshooting section. Gas or electric?
If gas, pilot light may be out, or other gas controls. Are you sure you have gas supply? Do you have other Gas appliances so you can check? Furnace needs power for controls, fan and thermostat. Are you sure you have electric power to the furnace? Does the thermostat have a fan switch? If so turn it on and see if the fan turns on. If it does not turn on you may have a circut breaker poped. or some other reason power to the furnace is not working.

RV FURNACE

It's hard to answer your question without the age and brand of your heater but the blinking of the red light can be a heartbeat, which indicates all systems are ok and there is power or the blinking is like 2 blinks, pause, and 2 blinks, pause repeating. That would indicate a failure code. In that case Google the model and serial number to get the failure code.

Furnace blowing cold air

Turn power off & on again. Watch to see if it cycles...it could be the hot surface igniter if you don't see it turn bright orange. If it goes straight to blowing cold air, then normally it is a limit switch open- mostly manual reset - thermal disc-located around flame rollout.

Comfortmaker furnace model GUH075 requires resetting for flame to light?

Is this an oil or gas fueled furnace? All heating appliances have several safety switches in the controls. Flicking the on/off switch (assuming you mean the emergency toggle switch) is not resetting the burner. If you pressed a button near the red light, that MAY have been the primary control reset.
Your problem could be anything from the main power switch to one of the many controls with a wiring or sensor issue. Or even a t-stat wire problem.
Regardless, a thorough technician should be checking the entire circuit, from the t-stat to every control in the circuit. Including every wire.
Lastly, a qualified licensed technician should never diagnose without being in front of the appliance. Hope this helped :)

Carrier Furnace wouldn't light, fan was running all the time.

Most furnaces have a photo cell if it gets dirty the photo cell does not see a flame so it trips the reset button on flame failure.
