Question about Dishwashers

1 Answer

Glasses are blasted with grime. We no longer have the manual (apartment came with dishwasher) so don't know how to clean parts, or what parts to clean. Also, not sure what the second trap door is for. Where to put the rinse, the ''salt''? Thanks in advance for any insight into how to operate effectively this somewhat ancient appliance! (Commercial code found on inside of door: ADP 456 DW)

Thanks for your prompt reply. The information I gave in the original message is the only info on the label on the inside of the door (Philips Whirlpool. Made in Germany. Mod. ADP 456 DW. Typ: NBO/2. There is another number that is not identified: 29210.) Otherwise, that's it.

All dishwashers are not created equal. We must have a good model number from the tag inside the door.

Sounds like the glasses have been "crazed" by the detergent used. The detergent is so harsh that it removes the smooth finish on the glass. Unfortunately, there is no way to fix this. The new detergents on the market now days is better and does not do this.

Also, some older machines did not have a "rinse" dispenser so there won't be a separate "trapdoor." You can try some of the new detergents that have the rinse in the detergent, ie Finish.

As you said, it's a very old machine.

SOURCE: soap isn't rinsing clean. It looks like there's a

Hi this is not salt or detergent. This is likely to be lime/calcium. Go to home depot or a similar hardware store and buy a gallon of lime-away or similar product. Start the dishwasher on pots and pans then once the dishwasher has filled with water open the door and pour around 2 cups of lime-away in. Let the entire cycle run and then repeat this once a week until the problem clears up. Once the problem clears up repeat this once every 3 months to prevent the problem returning. If you have any other questions please feel free to comment. Mike

SOURCE: an extra part inside the dishwasher

we found that part inside ours. it twist snaps on to the water out let at the back of the unit where the top sprayer arm normally connects. although we cannot find a reference in the manual, it looks like it is for cases where you want to remove the top rack to wash a tall item.

You need to download the factory service manual. If you haven't pulled the top end apart to at least get the pushrods out your not getting the cams in without damaging the cams or the lifters. Google the factory service manual for a buell blast.

I just took mine apart (bottom turntable, screen, etc.) and I was disgusted by the grime and gum that was clogging everything. I think it was keeping all the water a gritty white, which constantly left residue. I am currently running a load... hope that the "clean" dishwasher actually washes my dishes now!
