Oil System Plugged.

  1. Remove the clutch cover, bar, and chain, clean the bar groove, any holes and passages on the rear of the bar (both sides, consider rotating the bar), if equipped with a sprocket nose ensure it rotates easily at least one complete revolution. Clean the saw oiler hole and channel. Insert a blunted, hooked piece of wire through the oil filler hole and pull the hose in the oil tank out. Pay attention to the screen or filter on the free end (clean or replace, difficult to determine serviceability). Start the saw and see if it oils when revved up. If yes reassemble your saw. If no, continue with 2.
  2. Work your way through the linkage cleaning and replacing any defective parts as you go. Carefully check the hoses for cracks especially at bends and connections. If equipped with an oil pump it is usually behind the clutch (clutch is a left handed thread). Please make extensive notes & some digital pictures will help during reassembly.
If it does not oil on completion of 1 it is most likely a bad oiler or worm gear. Please see the IPL to aid in oiler component identification.

  1. Check the IPL for your saw to see if any special tools are needed. Poulan (Craftsman, Jonsered, Husky) clutch removal tool part number 530031112 if needed, is under $5 from many sources (look at the visible area between the weights if 2 small round sockets are visible you need the tool).
  2. There are metal piston stops available, when square (almost never) with the piston top these work well, if not square they have been known to punch through the piston. I suggest a length of nylon rope (nothing left behind) be used instead of the piston stop (retain 6" ± so you can remove it). Make sure the piston is near the top of the cylinder before feeding the cord or it can fall through the exhaust port and damage the piston as it rises.
  3. Everyone I have ever removed had a left handed thread (tighten it to loosen it). HTH

Remove the chain and cover holding it and check the hole that the oil comes out is not blocked by sawdust.

I have a husqvarna 55 rancher oil comes out the oil hole when bar is not on it but i put bar and chain on and it dosent get enough oil on chain just a small amount between teeth, ive cleaned bar and chain,...


The hole in the bar pad is the breather, it is quite normal for it to leak if the bar is removed, it consist of a role pipe and pipe inside the oil tank, there is nothing to worry about

No oil is getting on chain. I cleaned the chain saw and especially the bar and bar groove, but still no oil getting on chain. Is there a hole that I can stick a wire in to make sure it's not plugged ?


Remove the bar and chain (release the chain brake first) and clean the side of the engine case where the bar fits to. Start the engine and observe whether oil oozes out of the side port. If ok, clean the small oil passages in the drive end of the bar that run out to the chain groove on each edge from the large holes. If no oil came out, then the oil pump, oil line, or oil tank filter may require service. Good luck!

Husqvarna 235 is not oiling.Hole and groove on bar have been cleaned. The saw does drip oil with the bar off when running.All parts are clean but bar is not getting oil.Hope you can help,thanks.


With saw running and high speed hold saw close to a piece of wood and check for oiling. If still no oil, then use air pressure at hole in bar to clear.

Chain will not stay oiled


Remove the bar and chain and clean the side of the engine where the bar fits. There is an oil port there that should ooze oil out when the engine is running fairly fast. If it does, then clean the drive end of the bar (large oil holes out to the chain groove on each side. Also clean the entire groove and oil the sprocket on the outer end (if equipped). If oil did not ooze out of the port, the oil pump, oil filter, and any intervening lines should be inspected. Once you have oil proceeding from the port, reassemble the bar and chain. Check for proper oiling by running the outer tip of the bar (at speed) near to a piece of cardboard--it should throw off a thin line of oil onto the cardboard. Hope this helps!

Husqvarna 350 oil not getting to chain


Take the bar and chain from the saw. Clean the two small ports that run from the large oil holes at the drive end of the bar out to the chain groove on each side. Clean the entire chain groove. Start the engine with these parts removed--oil should ooze out from the side port in the engine case with the engine running at med speed. If it doesn't, then there is trouble near the pump inside the case. When everything is back together, run the saw at full speed with the bar tip near a piece of cardboard--it should throw off a thin line of oil onto the cardboard after a few moments of running. Remove the bar and chain. Start the engine and observe the oil delivery port in the side of the engine case. At a fairly fast speed, the oil should ooze out of the port. If little or nothing, check the pump, lines, and in-tank filter. If ok, clean the bar drive-end holes of sawdust and dirt, especially the small passages that go from the large holes out to the chain groove. Clean the entire groove and the outer end sprocket. Reassemble and test the oiling by running the bar tip at speed in front of a piece of cardboard--it should throw off a thin line of oil after several moments. Hope this helps!

Problems with the 350 husqvarna bar.


If all you say is true and when revved up the saw oozes oil with the bar removed, then I suspect the bar is incompatible with the saw. Has the bar been replaced? The oiler holes in the bar must align with the channel in the saw. Oiler hole placement is part of the reason there are so many different part numbers for bars. The mount is only part of the requirement.

Have cleaned bar grooves and holes, blown air through the oil line and my husqvarna oils but it just drips out instead of oiling the chain. When i take the chain and bar off oil comes from the hole but it...


The oil exiting the case next to the bar should just 'ooze' out depending on how fast the engine is running. Check the area around the oil port looking for an 'O' ring or other formed seal that may be damaged or missing. Make sure the small passage between the large hole (that lines up with the oil port) in the bar and the chain groove is open. It's easy to miss when cleaning. Make sure that the bar snugs up to the port firmly (otherwise, the oil just runs down the case). A check of oil delivery to the chain is to run full throttle for a moment or two--the end of the bar should paint a light line of oil on some paper or cardboard in front of the tip. Hope this helps!
