How old is the Unit?

If that is 6 - 8 years, more often coolant in the tubes grows a fungus
and causes what you are seeing.

Let me know, if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

    Thanks for your response!!

The Problem i mentioned is with Old Phillips Set. There could be Few more reasons that could Cause this.If you are getting Dark Pictures after few Minutes, like when you ON the TV the image is Correct and after few minutes it starts to Deteriorate / Dark, you might have some issues with bad solder connections on the picture tube's heater circuits, located on the High Voltage transformer section. In most cases, if you live in a larger town/city, TV Techs will generally just do a job like that for $100 to $150 at most.

It's kind of a fast/easy fix for us. It gets much more complicated for the average Job though.

That symptom you described where the picture gets darker after 5 minutes is due to the solder connections being cracked, and as the TV warms up they pull apart; your TV's heaters cool down you get less output from the picture tubes and once the connections cool down, they re-establish their connections and your picture gets brighter and the vicious cycle starts all over again.

Other Possibility is that the digital board is failing, this could cause weird problems with the video and a dark picture so this is a good possibility for your problem. Bad news here is that this repair could run $500-$600 which is most likely more than the set is worth to you because you can get new 42" sets for about that same price.

Let me know, if needed further assistance.

    Hope i helped you.

for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

I would say your small signal module is bad. This is the board with the convergence ICs. Have a tech or yourself pull the board out and replace the ICs and some resistors. Checkout They will have your model and its symptoms. Hope to guide you in the right direction!

Sounds like you may have the wrong lamp. Make sure you purchased a Philips lamp that's 100% compatible with your television model. Philips pioneered that lamp, so naturally they make 100 different types for DLPs and LCD projections.

You may have an elliptical lamp instead of parabolic. The lamp for your TV should read P22h.

I have a 1994 zenith big screen the picture is showing really dar

It could be that the picture tubes have gone down on emission, there is a prcedure that can be tried to bring up the overall brightness but it is just possible that you will loose some picture quality. If it's a 1994 projo tv i am thinking of the three crt system, a gray scale alignment would probably correct the dark condition in your picture, again depending on how far gone is the emission in your picture tubes, if your projo tv is the dlp system, the bad news is that you could be needing some light engine repair. The color adjustment is possible with the availability of a service manual or in the case of the dlp system, light engine repairs or replacement are available from some on line stores.

Tv is on as bright at it will go, and the pictures are still too dark

You can open the back and look for the focus block, this block has 6 knobs on it. 3 are for focus and 3 are for screen control. You will need to turn up the 3 screen control at slightly the same rate. If you are off balance you will have color problems, Do not turn up too high. Becareful, cause you will need set on to adjust. Do not touch anything else. If you move the focus by mistake then you will have to readjust. 3 Guns you will have to adjust one at a time, by covering the other two. Hope this helps!
