Question about Cameras

I have a tape stuck in the Sony CCD V8afu video camera. When I press the "eject" button, the tape disengages from the recording head, rewinds and is ready for the tape carrier to "pop-up." It just does not "pop-up." Any solutions, as the stuck tape holds our childhood memories? Thanks.

Hmmm, the first suggestions were "throw it against a wall" and "beat it several times," just doesn't seem to be appropriate for a video camera. Are there any other suggestions?

I'm having some problems here: The two responses I've received are apparently not familiar with the specific machine I'm inquiring about. "bang on it" or "pry it out with a screw driver" are not quite the responses I expect from experts. Let's try one more time. Maybe someone can direct me to a shop manual and I can diagnose it myself.

Thanks Dan, I'm in Tampa, FL. I'm looking forward to the pics. Bill

From your description, it appears that the unload sequence is not completing. There is a small latch that moves to allow the cassette carrier to release. To reach this latch will require some dis-assembly. This is not an unusual failure and should be easily fixable by a repair shop. Can you indicate where you are located? This is not a repair I would recommend for a novice. I will try and locate some pictures to show the latch area.

Update this with your location and I'll try to recommend a local shop.

Thanks,
Dan

I think that your model is only available on paper, so this may take a day or two. I don't have a scanner of sufficient quality to scan in the pix. If I can't get the picture, I'll try to create a step by step with descriptions to guide you through. If all you are looking to do is retrieve the tape, a local shop may do that for you at minimal cost. I'd persue that option as well.

Hello

Press the eject button, and as soon as it makes the noise that its trying to eject, try using a flathead screwdriver to gently prize open the cassette holder. A few attempts may be needed. It may simply be stuck on the inside edges and needs some gentle leverage to get it open.

Regards

Hi,

Hi,a couple
of problems on this model, drum assembly and sensors on mechanism(mechanism need replacement.I do not expect this to be worth repairing as part cost alone will exceed

$120.00 plus a fairly invasive repair.Short of throwing against the wall,I will suggest that a new camcorder will most likely be most cost effective. If you have a tape stuck in mechanism I think that any reputable service center should remove and save for a minimal charge.

You could try the below solution :-

Take out the battery and the AC cord.Turn the camera on (tape, memory, edit settings) for 15 seconds.
Turn camera to off setting.Plug battery or AC cord back in.Holding it firmly with one hand and hitting the bottom of the cam as hard as you can 3 or 4 times.Plug it back in and it may work.

If not, you need to Contact Center and they would Dissemble the Camera to pull out the tape so that the tape would not be Damaged.

Let me know, if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

    Thanks for your response!!

I Agree, that's why i suggested the Dissemble procedure. This is a Mechanical Problem. Usually the advice either Dissemble or go to the Service Center for it to be Dissembled. The other option i gave, if you do not have tools to dissemble it as well as do not want to get in touch with Service Center. You could pull out the Battery and keep it without Battery for few minutes, say 30 minutes and then you could out the Battery in and see if that could Fix the issue.

Let me know, if needed further assistance.

    Hope i helped you.

    Thanks
for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Sometimes the tape is stuck on the head . Open the door and try to pry off the tape from the head with a thin instrument . Power up the unit and usually it spits out the cass. This worked for me many times.

VCR tape is stuck - will not rewind or eject.

There schould be a release buuton on the rear of the machine. It's usually recessed and may be difficult to see. Press this with the yip if a ballpoint pen and extract the tape. If the tape is wrapped around the record/playback heads your only option is to remove the top cover and manually remove the tape. Sounds difficult but if you take your time it's not too bad a job.

I have an old Sony Hi8 Handycam model CCD-TR705E. Have not used it for about 4 years and decided to upload tapes to DVD via a DVD recorder. Worked fine for the first 5 hours of film then suddenly picture...

Try to use video head cleaning cassette one more time and check. Problem still exist then....
There is a very special cassette used to clean much dirty video heads calls Lapping Tape.
This is provided only to Sony Service Centers.
You need to contact nearest Sony Service Center.

Sony Handycam CCD-TRV37 8mm Analog... 2 Problems, maybe more unknown at this time:

This does require disassembly to remedy the problem. There are various possible fixes. The most prevelant I have seen is cold solder connections of the board connector for the fpc cable from the top operation switch block ass'y. All you need is someone who can handle this task, like a professional. The controls that you are experiencing problems with are all linked with one cable and connector. One bad solder joint can cause serveral operation faults. Good Luck, magic seadog

Cannot playback hi8 ccd trv107e pal

Dirty video head! Playback newly opened blank tape for five minutes, after that eject, reinsert, playback then eject again five times, these will serve as your video head cleaner, never use "video head cleaning cassette tape" for it will only damage your camera. Most camera has built in video head cleaner installed inside and activates only when you insert, initial play/rec, and ejects a tape. If the problem is still there you need pro fix then.[:0)

Has error

Take the battery out and turn selection switch to camera and then turn it off. Put the battery back in and its working again.
if that doesn't work try
Try smacking the side of the camera relatively hard with the palm of your hand. Eject the tape and reinsert. You may need to do this a couple of times.
