Hi, I found the link next to the battery was hardwired - changed it as suggested and can now boot the computer which runs as normal. I have installed a removable jumper for future use thanks for the help.

Are you talking about BIOS password? If you are, you will need to flash BIOS by relocating the CMOS Jumper near the MoBo battery, turn the PC on, then off, then put the jumper back to its original position. This should errase the password and allow you to enter setup.

Good for you, Snokie! I hope you are now happy. You can now work with Windows passwords instead of BIOS passwords after you have loaded your Operating System. Come back if you find more boogers, okay.

I am using Acer travelmate 4052 model for past 6 years. I used password for booting system. Today I tried to remove my BIOS password using BIOS setting. System asked me current password. So I entered the...

Try "1" or "/" or "A" or some messy combination of keys because it seems like you probably had a typo during setting the new password. Try "Spacebar" try "]" or "[" etc for a password, if you can figure it out you can reset it to nothing again just be careful. Otherwise research acer travelmate bios password removal. Also that computer is kind of old, so if there's nothing on it of importance, I'd replace it. If you need data try your friendly computer shop.

I have a lenovo singapore, and when i turn it on it says enter current password.and i don't recall ever putting one can i get past it?

Try pressing "enter" without entering a password. Depending on how it has been set up, it may ask for a password even if none has ever been set, in which case the correct password is no password. I'm not techie at all; the only reason I know this is that it happened to me.

The solution requires you to enter the BIOS or the PC's interface to the Microsoft operating system. It is the text or logo that flashed, usually briefly, as the PC is booting. For example, Acer uses the F2 key to enter the BIOS. Try to look up your mfg. specific function key to enter the BIOS...sometimes is can be the esc or del key.
You will have at least one level of password protection. Choose wisely and be prepared to ask how to bypass the password...j/k.

Ask your daughter. She set that password, and she needs to enter the password.

Otherwise, find the original sales-receipt, to prove that you (and not a thief) has possession of the laptop, and telephone ACER, and ask for help in bypassing the password.

Got secondhand acer aspire x3200cannot log on ,asking for password from former ownwer, can i bypass this

It is possible to bypass it if its just the User's password but not the Administrator's Password

on the Logon Screen, Press CTRL+ALT+DEL keys and another Logon Dialog Box will appear, type administrator in the Username Field and press enter without entry any password. You will be logged on if there is no Administrator's Password then Go to Control Panel => User Account, Select the User and unset the password.

Acer 5315 recon harddisc security password required

Bad news, someone has set the hard drive security option. The hard drive is hardware locked and can't be unlocked without the password. Not even putting the hard drive in another machine will bypass the security. You can send the drive to hitachi repair in Dallas, Tx. for recovery but it is very pricey.
