Sounds like it is set to do a label length check at power on. Go into your printer preferences and set it to "do nothing" on power up.

You need to calibrate. Hold down the feed key while powering the printer on, then let go. The printer will calibrate, print a config label, then fo into dump mode. Press the fee key again to go out of dump. Of your issue persists, there could be a problem with yoru media, or with the commands that you are sending to the printer.

SOURCE: Label double print
It's possible that the printer did not get a good calibration on the size of the label. There's an optic sensor looking for the gaps in the labels. A test would be to turn the printer off and back on again. When it is ready, just press the feed key. If one label advances then the printer had a good read on the label size. The idea is to see if the printer works ok by itself first.
Now print a label - if you get two labels then you have to look at the software / printer driver as the cause. The printer will only do what it's told to do.
Hope that helps !

SOURCE: I just purchased a Zebra
What mode is the printer in? Thermal transfer or thermal direct? If in thermal direct, with transfer type labels, the printer will appear to just advance. If I remember correctly, you can get the current parameters by holding down the button on the top until the unit starts to print. Check all the settings for the correct values. Post them here if you'd like and we can chek them.
