Question about Sewing Machines

Open Question

Need service manual for Kenmore sewing machine 158.19142 I have had this machine for at least 30 years. It has been a great machine. It has cams you put into the top for different stiches but it does'nt seem to be be working right anymore and I'm the only one that sew on it. I took it in to a shop about a year ago but they did nothing. So I thought I would look on the internet and find a repair manual for it. I really love my machine, they just don't make them like that any more. Can anyone out there help me with a repair manual. I would really appreciate it. Thanks. looking forward to hearing from you all.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

SOURCE: thread a kenmore 158 13410????

Not sure if I am too late, but it's pretty basic. I have the same machine...

You have the thread on the spool with the thread on the left side (unrolling off the spool counterclockwise) and put it around the round thing on the front middle (looks like a snap sort of) and through the eye almost right in front of it (the loop) and hold the thread lightly then wrap the thread around the tensioner (the thing with the dial) to the left (counterclockwise) until the springs "pops" it into place. Then run the thread through the little hook thing (by entering from the left) then up to the eye (hole) that is in the little arms that raises and lowers (you might need to spin the wheel to get the arm in the right position) then you run the thread back through the hook thing (entering from the left) around the little half circle thing (by entering from the left) and finally in the hole in the needle...

hope it made sense, I tried to use laymen terms...

good luck!

SOURCE: Kenmore Sewing maching 158 15510: sewing mechanism

You put the hook (the half moon thing with a sharp point on it) in the machine by placing it opposite the little curved bar. Make sure it is seated properly on the ridge. The you take the race, the circular part with a small plate on the top and place that over the hook(the plate side will be facing up). It will only fit a certain way, it could have a slot that a notch fits into (that is usually how it goes). Then slide the arms over it and they will snap into place. Once done, turn the handwheel and make sure everything moves smoothly. If not, you'll need to start over as something isn't seated correctly. Then you can install the bobbin case as usual.

SOURCE: Upper thread knots up with bobbin thread when sewing a stich

Thread test
Test your thread quality to start, thread your machine and LIFT the presser foot (this opens the tension disks). Pull your top thread straight back. If you feel no tension no mater how much thread you pull, your thread is good. If that your machine passes that test, then let me know, we can go to step 2. If not, try different spool of thread, same test until you get a smooth pull (tip: always check your thread this way when you thread your machine)
Step 2:
Pull on your threaded bobbin thread while it’s in the machine. Does it pull smooth and even? If so, go to step 3. If not, try a new bobbin (bobbins get bent or distorted if wound too tight).
Clean thoroughly in the hook and bobbin case area and oil 1-2 drop is all.
Thread knotting on the bobbin can be a lot of things but here's some guidance:
Tension:
If the thread is loose on the bottom of the fabric, it's actually the top thread is too loose. Think of 2 little elves playing tug of war in your machine, one on toip and one underneath. If you have loops on bottom, the top needs to pull harder (tighten top tension)
Jamming bobbin case:
If it is damaged from turning out of place once, it could have rough spots on it that makes the thread hang on it, and keeps making it turn over and over. Use a finger nail board (fine sanding) and smoothall rough spots. Then reset the bobbin case taking care to put the notch in the bobbin case in alignment with the proper spot in the machine (basically 5 o’clock) when looking at the round area where the bobbin case goes.

SOURCE: can't wind bobbin kenmore 16221 sewing machine, no manual

On the right side of the machine there is a large knob at the top. Pull that out and you can wind your bobbin. Don't forget to push it back in so you can sew :)

SOURCE: I have a quantum cxl.

The needle shaft sticks to the curved arm and won't come down because a piece of plastic, about an eighth of an inch thick had broken from age. It prevented the shaft from staying up on the needle arm. Open the cover, try to stitch decorative stitch and see what I mean. Purchase a package of 4-10 by 1/2 nut and bolt pack. Screw the nut all the way onto the bolt. Using needle-nosed plyers, Carefully bend the curved arm slightly, and place bolt into the hole on the top of the needle shaft. Nut will keep it in place. Lowering the needle shaft using wheel, carefully bend arm back in place. Try decorative stitch. It should work. It does for me.

I have been looking for 3 days! Still can't find the manual for the Kenmore Sewing machine model #148.13110! Please can someone HELP terryrp@icloud.com

Unfortunately, the manual is not available for free. Sew USA, http://www.sewusa.com , has various Kenmore sewing machine manuals available. I believe the manual you need will cost $10: http://www.sewusa.com/Sewing_Machine_Manuals/Kenmore_Manuals/Kenmore_1311_Instruction_Manual.htm .

I hope this helps.

Those books are long since out of print. Try contacting sewing machine stores who stock old instruction books. Many shops do this. Or try eBay.

Where do I oil the sewing machine?

OILING
FACTORY LUBRICATED PARTS WILL PROVIDE YEARS OF HOUSEHOLD SEWING
WITHOUT ROUTINE OILING. HOWEVER, WHENEVER THE MACHINE tS BEING
SERVICED, CHECK TO SEE IF ANY PARTS NEED TO BE LUBRICATED.
OIL
APPLY GOOD QUALITY SEWING MACHINE OIL TO THE POINTS (A, B, C, D, E)
INDICATED BY BLACK ARROWS.

WHITE GREASE IS RECOMMENDED FOR USE ON GEARS AND CAM SURFACES.
IT IS AN IMPROVED GREASE, AND IT CAN BE USED ON THE METAL AND PLASTIC
PARTS WHICH POINTS ARE INDICATED BY THE WHITE ARROWS (F,G, & H).
