Question about Gateway GT5082 PC Desktop

1 Answer

The other day I reformatted my computer with Windows 7. My problem is that I can't get a driver to work for my network card. The computer is a Gateway GT5082 with an NVIDIA nForce 410 chipset. I can find XP and Vista drivers but none work.

I tried your advice to no avail. I've also tried running the installation in compatibility mode for both Vista and XP. I think it's time for a new card, I just didn't want to have to a) buy a new card b) wait for it to get here. Thanks for your help anyway mchaos.

With the computer off, turn it on, and right before the windows screen pops up hit F8. this will bring up a boot menu, select "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement"

This should allow the driver to work. The only problem is that you will have to select this at every boot up.

Network cards are in expensive these day, i would get a newer one that will have an updated driver.

Network adapter for acer aspire

If you don't have the disk that came with the network card, I would go to another computer that does still have internet access, go to the network card manufacturer's site, download the driver onto a thumbdrive, and install it onto the new Win7 machine from the thumbdrive. (I had to do something like this when I rebuilt a WinXP machine a couple years ago. Now I keep backup copies of my drivers on CDs.)

Presario CQ42-305 will not connect to wifi after reformat.

To connect your computer to a wireless router, you click the Refresh network list, then Choose your wireless network and then click Connect to your secured Wireless Network, it will asks for a Network Key before allowing you to connect into your wireless network. This Network Key is either the WEP, or WPA or WPA2 Encryption key that is configured in the Wireless settings in the Router. The Passphrase is an alternate way to setup the Encryption key.
When you are requested for a Network Key, you can just enter the Passphrase or WPA or WPA2 key that was used to configure the Encryption key in the wireless router. http://www.fixya.com/support/r5270415-network_password_network_address For information on securing your wireless network, configuring the wireless router and configuring the wireless card in the laptop/computer, please click on this link and follow my instructions :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security

Microsoft ISATAP adapter is not working

You're definitely not the only person with this error. You didn't supply us with too much information but a common cause for this problem happens when you do a Windows update. It will update your computers wireless network card drivers with incompatible drivers. Try rolling back your network card drivers by following these instructions.

Roll Back Drivers

Don't worry about the warnings Windows gives you, if all else fails you just hit the Update Drivers button and go back to default settings.

P.S. If this doesn't work, we will need more info on your computers hardware. Try to find out which network cards you are using and post them here.

I have reformatted my Sony VGN-NR21J and am dual booting Linux Mint and Windows XP. Naturally my problem is in XP. In Linux, all is well. I'm posting this from my laptop right now, connected to my home...

I would suggest that you go under device manager (by right clicking on My Computer) and right-click on the device that has the !. Choose to uninstall that device.

Now, the reason most times for that is that you may have put the wrong drivers in initially, but then weren't completely removed, so the next time you used different drivers, they didn't completely work properly.

Restart the computer.

Go back to the Sony website, and download the drivers needed for your wireless card. And try installing it again.

I would suggest altogether to delete the WinXP partition and instead install Windows 7. I say that because windows 7 has many of the baseline drivers and for most computers of 1.5 years+ you don't have to install many drivers for them at all; they all come built in.

I hope some of that helped.

Please Rate. Thanks.

It sounds as if Win seven doesn't support the drivers for your sound card. You might go to their web site and see if they have come out with drivers that are supported by Windows 7.

Wireless not working

You need to install the wireless drivers of your computer card to get the card working.
You will find the drivers at your computer manufacturer website /support

If you already did it, check your wireless router settings and be sure that you have a wireless network availaible to connect.
