Spots on a black screen that are nearly undetectable or undetectable on a white screen are probably dust. If it's more of a blue tint scattered around the screen that is persistent when a picture is displayed, it's likely a burnt LCD panel. Blue is the most common one to burn. On this model, it's really difficult to "physically" get to the lenses and LCD panels that will be the culprit, but it's pretty easy to blow them off. Carefully remove the cover and look for the optical block directly behind the lens. There will be large square hole in the circuit board with 3 ribbon cables going down to the LCD panels on 3 sides. This is where the culprit dust is likely to be. Carefully blow this area out on all sides (the panels and filters in here are delicate) and clean the rear of the lens if you can reach it. Don't worry about any of the lenses and mirrors between the lamp and the optical block area. The light is pretty out of focus there and would only cause the image to be dark if it was really dirty. Also, pull the filter from the bottom of the unit and clean it really well, and clean it OFTEN or replace it or you will burn an LCD panel.

If you are seeing the "spots" when a black screen is projected, the problem is likely to be scattering caused by dust on the lens. If you can get at both ends of the lens assembly, clean both sides using lens tissue. If the spots are seen at all times, there may be damage to one or more of the LCD panels.

Please update this with your results of the cleaning.

Thanks,
Dan

Epson 3lcd projector emits blue light

If the image has got a blue discolouration on it, the lcd panel may have burnt out. It will gradually get worse. I think it may be too costly to repair as a new projectors can be purchased for just over £200. I recently purchased 7x NEC NP115. They are good spec and good price.

Good luck, hope I was helpful to you

How do I get in there safely to clean the mirror?? what do i unscrew first etc.. it still working just fine but the color is going after 15 years and i need to clean the inside.

Hello.
I would not recommend you to touch the mirror. It is hanged sort of reflection surface facing down so it is not real dust collector. You can clean lenses of your CRT tubes (red, green and blue) to improve your picture. Just remove rear cover taking out black and golden screws and you will see dusty lenses right away in the middle of the TV. Use DRY "Bounty" paper towels to remove dust from lenses, don't wet it with any solutions or it will leave film on optics. Just in circular motion move dust to the black plastic edges of lenses. Don't worry about some specs of dust that inevitable will be left behind - they will not affect image at all like thick layer of dust do.
Regards.
Russ.

Projection has yellow tint

From your description, it sounds like a problem with the blue color. Green LCD=purple onscreen, Red=cyan(baby blue) onscreen, Blue LCD=yellow onscreen. It could be a lot of dust on the blue lcd panel, or worse, might be a burned polarizer filter behind the lcd panel due to excessive heat. If you can focus on the yellow and its tons of yellow specs, its dust. A burned filter however, must be replaced. A technician trained in projectors will have to do it. The filter material is glued to a thin glass panel and is replaced as a single filter. It's a very involved repair.

Yellow spots on the projected image

Hello there. First, some info you need...Green LCD=purple onscreen, Red LCD=cyan(baby blue) onscreen, and Blue LCD=yellow onscreen.
These spots (specks?) are probably dust particles that get past the filter. Annoying but harmless. To check if they are indeed dust bits, if you can focus sharply on them, then yes, its dust. To remove the particles completely will require a service. They will only return eventually. You can try to blow out the biggest offenders with some canned air. And, to help slow down dust entry, keep the dust filter cleaned so that the unit always has plenty of air movement--you'll have a cleaner image with the added benefit of LONGER life of the lamp and projector components (dust is the number 1 killer of projectors)

Blue tints w/ tini blue dots

if you see blue pixel type groups of squares or dots you may have a burnt light engine and this is common in many LCD rear projection sets; a blue screen may mean the engine became burnt--LCD rear projection sets of this kind have an optical enginge--with red, green, blue prizims--sometimes they get burned by the lamp---a photo would tell me or most techs what the problem is---the cost of a replacement engine is very expensive--some models with this problem are covered by Sony even if the set is no longer in warrant

Seeing a blue "haze" on presentations, and when on blank screen

On the "Option" menu, try selecting "Service" and the "Factory Reset". This may help. If not, you will have to use the menus to manually adjust the level of blue in the projectin. Go here for the manual for your Hitachi and you will find instructions:
