Question about Sega Genesis Console

1 Answer

I am unable to get a good picture. I can get the sega to turn on, and you can hear it on the television set. But the picture is vague and usually black and white. I have tried multiple games and each one has the same problem.

You might want to make sure the Audio/Visual cords are correct and not damaged.

Hi, some time if your using the original RF cable they may be faulty. some time a new AV cable may fix the problem see http://www.gameoz.com.au/store/sega-mega-drive/mega-drive-accessories/sega-mega-drive-2-av-cable-with-stereo-2-metres-long.html

Samsung HLP6163WX picture shuts off.

Likely the DMD unit which is part of the light engine--if have to unplug set the microprocessor is getting scrambled and cannot operate. Common and fatal issue as to replace the light engine the cost will exceed the value of this set---DMD can be purchased alone but costs almost as much as the whole engine that comes with it.

Seen several of these sets---a shame but even at wholesale the part to fix it makes it not worth fixing.

Sega Megadrive II - cannot connect console to t.v.

Please post a little more info! Can't connect console to TV. Pretty vague. Are you saying you physically are not able to connect it and you need someone else to do it? Does your TV not have the right jacks for the cable you have? Have you already hooked it up and it will not display video. Does the power turn on?

Hi I have a Sega Megadrive 1 & Mega CD 1. It has wroked for years from new but it has got a problem within the last week. When turned on the conosles comes on as normal and you see a good and...

Well, Sega's aren't known to be long lasting, but if it isn't an issue with the console itself you could try checking all of your cords, assuring they are plugged in good and tight to both your console and screen. Faulty cords can easily be overlooked. If your discs aren't working, but you're hearing the music from different ones and no picture, it sounds like an issue with one of your video jacks, so make sure everything is properly plugged in.
Failing that, bring it to a retro gaming shop to have it looked at or test it at someone else's place.

Red screen vague picture sound is excellend

Well it takes a good Y and Z to make a good picture.

Slow turn-on sounds like power supply problem to me, although I've worked more on LCD sets than plasma, so I could be wrong.

Here's an ebay link that tells how to test your Z, and coincidentally has a Z board for sale.

Problem with the 1st generation sega genesis

If the screen changes (From snow to black or something) when the console is turned on it sound like the console is partially working. Try cleaning the Cardridge pins que tip and some sort of cleaning fluid.

Once this is done insert and eject the cartridge several times then repeat the cleaning process on the cartridge. Hope this helps.
