I need a driver for my scanner running on XP

This worked for me:
Do NOT connect scanner before these first few steps
1. Download & save win xp drivers from HP website: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=28447&prodTypeId=15179&prodSeriesId=28441&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=228
The 63.4mb file is the only one you'll need
2. Right-click on the saved file and go to its properties. Under the compatibility tab, set the file to run with win xp service pack 3. Apply changes and close properties dialogue.
3. Right click on the same file and choose 'run as administrator'. Accept any windows prompts that may appear and let the program & drivers install.
4. Once the software has finished installing, connect the scanner to your computer (via USB) and turn the scanner on.
5. Restart the computer without unplugging or turning the scanner off.
6. Your scanner should now work fine with the HP Precisionscan Pro utility.

First you would need to make sure you have a parallel port on your computer, because if you don't, you would need to get an adapter of some sort for either a p2p or usb port, whichever you prefer. I'm not sure if you can get a parallel cable from the manufacture, but you could probably find it on eBay. With an older scanner and a newer computer, you can probably just plug it in and it will work, but if you need the software, go here: http://www.nodevice.com/driver/320P/get25293.html

Visioneer doesn't support this scanner for any OS past XP. If a generic TWAIN scanner driver doesn't work, the single computer workaround is to use a virtual computer with XP. (If your old computer is still working, you can keep the scanner on that and transfer files on an optical disc (CD-R or DVD-R depending on the old computer's specs) or USB flash drive.)

If you have Win7 Pro or Ultimate, you can do run an XP virtual computer for free. Download Virtual PC and XP mode, install XP mode in the Virtual PC program and install the scanner to the virtual computer. To transfer files back to the real computer, you probably will need to save to external media. For other versions, you will need either Virtual PC or another virtualization program and a licensed copy of XP.

First connect your scanner to computer with usb cable.
Then insert disk in rom then install driver and software from disk.
It is not matter that first you connect scanner or install driver but if you connect scanner first your computer recognized it then you can install driver from disk.

First I need the model of the scanner. The generic solution to scanner problem is the following:
steps
1) look for accompanying CD with your scanner. It may say software, suite, or driver on the CD itself and place it in the CD tray of your PC. If there is A CD go to step 4 else go to step 2.
2) locate scanner name, model & number and add driver at the end of that model name and number in google search.
3) ***Make sure the website you go to is a reputable website***Once you've found a driver download it.

4) Make sure all connector from the scanner to the PC is connected along with the power cord. If no driver is necessary and it says hardware found then you are lucky else proceed to to step 5.

5) Run the software that you found by clicking on it this could either be from the CD or the file you downloaded. Once the software runs and executes it should discover your scanner.

6) Run a few scan and use the accompanying software .

7) if all else fails give me the specific name and model number of your scanner.

The thing that you need to do is go to the company site. Go to the company site that made the scanner to download the drivers. If they do not have a driver for XP then you are out of luck.

i have changed to a new pc, but i lost the driver for umax AstraSlim Se scanner. How to down load the driver so that i can use back my scanner

Load the XP drivers and run it in compatibility mode. Or right click on the exe files after unzip and mark in compatibility mode xp. Works fine!!

look on your cd (do a windows search function) for files named "...something.MSI". Right click on this file and select either the "INSTALL" or the "RUN" utility. this should force the driver install.
