Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

I have a Rudd AC unit Model UEAB-1410BF5. The AC works, the fan works, but the heat will not come on. It was working, then one day stopped. When you try and get it to come on nothing happens. Thought it was the thermostat, replaced that still nothing. What could it be? As I said the AC and fan work fine.

if not jump out at furnace where wires connect to it.

Outside unit will only run for a short amount of time with A/C before the fan stops turning and starts humming, squealing/screeching and the top of the outside unit gets hot.

The bearings are bad in the motor and after the fan runs enough it eventually gets hot, making the bearing screech and the fan locks up. Need to replace motor again. See if it has a warranty. The reason it gets hot is because the fan is what removes the heat from the coil and if the fan isn't running there is nothing to cool it off so to speak.

I have a rudd UHLA-3617JA high achiever air handeler, works fine except the electric heater will not come fan starts normally, is this a fuse/breaker or failed electric element problem, how can i tell

It is either the element, sequencer (or contactor/relay), or power to the switching element. 5KW Elements normally Ohm out @ around 10 Ohms when they are good. Everything you need to check requires a multimeter.

Why same different AC companies has the same model number

There are a number of manufacturers that make equipment for many different brands and just have different paint schemes. Rheem and Rudd...one is brown, the other green. Carrier, Day and Night, Payne are the same units with subtle differences. Kenmore, Whirpool, and several others are manufactured by the Heil Quaker Corporation that became ICP a few years back. The list goes on and on.

As a matter of fact, some have the different badges in a baggie delivered in the box so the appropriate one can be place on the unit when installed.

Heatpump r-22 rudd system, unit runs starts out heating then compressor stops in middle of heating ,this unit has a out side air temp. sensor just wondering if possible bad board or not

If compressor stops in middle, check the following.
1.Thermostat setting must be minimum +3 degree than your room temp
2. Check it's in heat "mode"
3. Check indoor and outdoor coils are clean.
4. Check fan motor is working alright.
5. Outside sensor and room air sensor is placed correctly.
6. Gas pressure is o.k
7.Check compressor is overheated, even all the above is o.k.

Blower fan will not come on when set on Auto in heat mode.

the fan is controlled by a fan center or a stack switch. as burners light and heat up the spring sensor on the bulkhead above burners heats up and turns and a a point energizes the indoor fan if it gets to hot the burners go out on safty. sounds like a fan control is bad tap on them gently and they sometimes break loose but if not then have a pro replace fan control and test heat exchanger.
