i can't get my stiletto to go into device recovery mode

  • markp_370 Aug 20, 2008

I have the same problem - the channel I am listening begins skipping and repeating the last half-second or so. I cannot turn off the radio, and must take off the battery for it to finally stop.

I ran a system recovery last night, and it did the same thing today when I was listening to it.

It happened a few months ago and came and went every so often. In the last 24 hours though, it has happened about 5 times, including when I recieved the "Error" message, which lead me to the system recovery program.

Any ideas what this problem is?

I have experienced the same problem and have run the device recovery three times in the past week and a half. Device has become a major POS. Works for about a day or two, then starts its skipping problems before it displays the feared error message. Am seriously considering not renewing my subscription when it is expired, which is a shame.

Actually, it happens outside, and won't work again until I manually take off the battery, and then restart it.

Usually this is a signal issue and it happens when recording indoors mostly, right? The signal dropps but only for a second or two so when you look at it its fine. you've probably notived it cutting in and out when "live" from time to time. Use your signal meter built in to the device and find the strongest signal location. If that doesnt work or its not the problem, update the software. If that doesnt work try running the recovery software but only as a last resort because you'll lose your recordings.
SIRIUS Device Recovery (SDR) is a software application that helps you recover your Stiletto (SL2, SL100 or SL10) in the event of a complete system failure.
The SIRIUS Device Recovery program retrieves the latest version of software for your Stiletto from the Sirius website. NOTE: Performing device recovery WILL ERASE the entire contents on your Stiletto: all music, Sirius recordings, channel presets and any user preferences. The Stiletto will be reset to its original factory state. You can perform the revovery from the Sirius Studio software that came with your device or http://www.sirius.com/mysiriusstudio

Headset only works in one ear.

I have owned several "stilleto" models, including the S100, S200, and the S50. I bought the protection plan through Circuit City (now useless), because I went through 3 of these units in as many months.
I am sorry to say but you are out of luck. The solder that binds your headphone jack to the circuit board has been compromised and the unit is an injection molded unit that makes it very difficult to disassemble and repair.
You may be able to find a local repair shop that still does this kind of work, and may be able to help you, but otherwise you have an expensive piece of junk on your hands. I have had heard of several reports of people contacting Sirius directly and complaining, and potentially getting a deal on a new unit, or even a free unit, due to a malfunctioning unit.

Your only other solution is to some how plug the headset in, and pull the cord in a direction that allows for both headsets to function. Once in the is position, keep it there by taping (or elastic banding) down the cord so the jack keeps pressure in that position.

I accidentally washed my sirius stilleto 100. Is

If this is a recent (1 or 2 days ago), there is a possible solution that might work. This also works with many cellphones. As you should know, the Stiletto 100 has a removable battery. seperate the battery from the Sirius Player. Get a tupperware bowl and fill it about halfway or so with dry rice. Place Battery and player in the rice and completely cover with the rice. Leave Battery and player in rice for 24-48 hours. After this time period, replace battery and start it up. If not working, give it another 24 hours. If after the extra 24 hours it still doesn't work, you may have damaged it beyond repair and you may have to consider buying a new one. If this event happened more then a few days ago, there may be ongoing damage to circuit boards and such and this damage may be irreversible. You should consider either taking in for repair or replacement. This is a better option if you have a no-questions-asked replacement plan. Some electronics stores have a service plan in which they will completely replace a damaged device, even if the damage was your fault and/or completely intentional. These plans aren't cheap, ranging anywhere from 20 bucks for cheaper devices to $100+ for more expensive devices, but should you damage your device for whatever reason, including acts of god, they will completely replace with no questions asked. Some stores don't even require you to have all the parts available, although some do, so you have to ask if you aren't sure. If you have the money, I would also recommend getting the plan for the replacement as well.
Here is a link to a video about how to dry out cellphones. This is the method I am talking about and it explains the process a tiny bit better. Site: http://www.switched.com/2007/08/15/how-to-save-a-wet-cell-phone/
I hope this information helps.

SL 100 keeps restarting. Computer does not see it when it's hooked up.

I had to re-install Version 1.1 of My Sirius Studio from original CD that came with my Stilletto 100 as the most recent Version of My Sirius Studio did not recognize my Stilletto when I plugged the USB into my PC, when I re-installed Version 1.1 over the newer version, I shut down the Stilletto by holding down the power swith for 5 seconds then powered back up while holding down the Options and Display buttons at same time until the screen asked me to plug the USB cable into PC to recover. I did this and about 5 minutes later the the software/firmware was re-installed in my SL 100. I then plugged SL 100 into antenna and selected satellite radio, took about 1 minute to re-aquire the station ID's and Icons then I selected Sirius Hits 1 then everythings was back to normal, other than I lost all of my stored songs and recordings, but at least my SL 100 is operational again.

How to open Stiletto 100

Service manuals are not available except from manufacturer - they probably won't give you one, but you can always ask. You can check online sites, but call them in person and make sure they have a SERVICE manual, not a USER'S manual. 1-800-869-5590

I am having the same issue, tried all solutions listed, it appears to be a hardware issue. Going to check with Sirius, which I doubt if they have any solutions for anything.

Stiletto 100 recorded content skips

Double check your signal strength during the time of day your recording sounds like classic signal drop. Could also be software issue or memory issue.
