Question about Coffee Makers & Espresso Machines

2 Answers

Pasquini turns on (while cold) as normal. Operation is as normal for about 10 minutes. Then the heating indicator goes off and no longer goes on - even once the machine is relatively cold and pressure goes to zero. Its as if there was no water (although there is water) or as if it went into some "do not heat" mode.

It does not seem to be the typical sticky pstat issue - as the pressure is well regulated during the first 10 minutes. It also does not seem to be related to an empty water tank - its full. An interupted wire doesnt seem likely given that it works initially.

I agree that what I heard is a partial solution but I do not yet know what I should do.

So it looks a little bit that something in the inside of the machine tells it to go into "Panic" mode. It then acts as if there was no water. Now. This sounds a little bit like the control unit has a problem. But replacing it based on that hunch is a bit hard - that unit runs 300 dollars.

Anyone with real knowledge of the Pasquini Livia having any suggestions?

I am not familiar with this machine however generally equipment that has a heating element or elements will have a thermostat. Not the kind of thermostat for your house heat, it is basically a thermal breaker. Bi-Metal thermostats can be normally open or normally closed. When the thermal limit has been reached they activate. In your case it sounds like you have a normally closed thermostat that is opening up. Again this is all speculation but as a rule of thumb this is for safety purposes IE so it won't catch on fire.

PS one way to tell if this is the problem is if their is a latent time period that you cannot turn the unit back on. The thermostats have to reset themselves by returning below the switching temperature.

that link is an example of what bi-metal thermostats look like.

If you are looking for someone with first hand experience with this model may I suggest you contact the company directly. It isn't worth your time or wallet for people on here to hypothesize about what could be wrong with this very expensive coffee machine. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Recently had radiator, hoses, heater core changed. After 5 to 10 minutes of driving gauge goes up to just about red lines

make sure that there is no air in the system. Most vehicles have a reservoir and a fill location because the reservoir is below the top of the engine. take the cap off the highest point and then run the engine from cold. the air should work its way out. keep an eye on the antifreeze reservoir level top up as needed. once the bubbling has stopped replace the cap, and see how it goes.

Pasquini Livia 90: heats up for about 5 minutes, then shuts off

Sounds like the pressure switch is not working properly and the safety is turning the machine off. Try checking the tube from the boiler to the pressure switch that might be blocked, if not then the pressure switch needs to be replaced.

I have a six plus year old Livia 90 Semi Automatic. It builds up pressure and then releases through the release valve, sometimes every 10 minutes, sometimes not for a couple of hours. Always quite a...

This is a simple fix. This has been fixed on newer units with a rewire kit. This rewire kit is for Pasquini Livia 90’s with serial numbers PRIOR to #49000. We have them listed on our website Part# 90000 for $30.00.
You can contact me for this part - If you are local we could install it for you. If you do not fix this problem soon, you will need a new pressure release valve. It would also be advised you get a microswitch #7633905 for $13 at same time as the rewire kit. If you still require a manual we could provide you with a digital version.

Our Livia 90 would need a service + the pressure steam valve is leaking. Thanks in advance ! Thilo

If you are local to us perhaps in Orange County, CA we can provide service. If not you may contact Pasquini to get a local certified repair location near you.

As far as the pressure steam valve goes, you most likely simply need a new o-ring kit... we offer kits for new and older units. Older machines would use Part# KSWV-2 for $5.40, newer units would use Part# KSWV-2 for $4.30. I could explain how you could do this service yourself.

Pasquini. Livia 90 intermittently building up too much pressure

The part that will solve your problem is an upgraded heating rewire kit which will control pressure electronically, not manually. The rewire kit is Part #90000, $28

You may also need a new micro switch which is connected to your PStat with the rewire kit. The micro switch part #7633905, $13

These parts are in stock. I can send you these parts and instructions to install these parts in your machine.

Electric furnace blows cold air before and after warm air.

It is normal. Your house has to go down a couple more degrees because the heat pump is not working. You can solve this by rewirng you thermostat. Take off the wire that goes to Y and tape off. Then take the wires that are marked w and e or w1 and put the wires to yellow. Do not run ac with it wired like this. If you need more information please post me back

Grey smoke from my ford mondeo lx 2lt tdci 2001 when i first start it .

hi from uk if you have to turn engine a little longer than normally? on initial start fro cold? and then starts/runs ok for rest of day ? then more than likely your engines glow plugs are in early stage of failing/burning out? these engines rely on pre heat of cylinders when starting especially from cold so they have glow plugs for this purpose indication of burning out is the grey smoke you report on cold starts this is fuel that is not being combusted due to poor cylinder compression/s being heated on first start but when engine heats up no problems so i suggest you renew all 4 glow plugs they are easy diy job and you can purchase from good motor stores not necessarily dealers they are just like spark plugs usually 10 mm socket/spanner to change em after disconnecting the elec supply cable from each hope this helps and inspires you? if milage is high then they are in need of renewal

Picture problem

If the set is no longer under warranty, open up the back and reseat all of the connectors and cables. You are seeing a heat related connection problem. If it is still in warranty, bring it in for warranty repair. The other possibility is a heat related connection at the processing chip(s). This is a more complicated repair that should only be done by an experienced tech that works with surface mounted components.
Keep us posted.
