Check the fuse links, power to the battery from the alterntor goes through fuse link A, I think this link is behind the brake booster it will be very heavy gauge link, u can also follow the altenator battery lead to fuse link A

I'm going to assume your meter is accurate and you have verified the 18.4 reading.
Something has to be bypassing the regulator to make the alternator charge at full power. The regulator breaks the circuit dozens of times per minute to maintain 14 volts. Does the alternator charge with the regulator unplugged ?

Alternator tests good wont charge battery

I'm sorry to say it could be the computer.
The computer controls idle speed as well as alternator output.
If the check engine light is on you should get it scanned for trouble codes.

I tried to start and all power goes out then I Disconnect positive and re connect there is power but it wont even click over and power goes out again

Your description does not rule out a bad battery. Make sure the cable connections are clean and connected correctly. Assuming this is all good check the voltage with a DC volt meter. A fully charged battery should test 12.85 Volts. If it is very near 12 or lower it is a week battery. With jumper cables or other means to get good voltage try and start it again. If is start you have a bad or week battery. If you get it to run check the voltage again while it is running. The meter should now read 13.5 -14.0 volts. If not above 13 volts it is not charging properly causing the battery to run down.....................

My 1991 dodge ramcharger will not charge. I have had it to the repair shop twice and they keep saying its the alternator. They said they tested the complete charging system and found nothing wrong with...

compare the voltage at the back of the alternator (large post) to the voltage at the battery, when sitting while engine off and running-the readings should be identical. If not, you have a wiring problem or if that is ruled out, the ECM is the issue. You should get readings of 12.5+ volts after sitting overnight, and close to 15 volts when first started, gradually dropping down to about 14.2 volts, at BOTH locations.

1976 dodge l'esprit travco motorhome won't charge, new alternator and new regulator brm

You will have to test it with a automotive multimeter to find the fault iam afraid as its impossible to say ,I would use the meter to locate the fault and start by testing the thick wire on the back of the alternator to see if it has power from the battery ,then if that appears ok then i would unplug the regulator and join the earth wire coming from the alternator to earth ,like put a paper clip in the connections and see if it charges then ,if it doesnt charge by earthing the wire from the alternator then its the alternator faulty ,the regulator works by making and breaking the earth connection from one of the brushes on the commutator with a transistor where the base connection is fed with a positive feed which activates the transistor to allow or stop a current flow which depends on the load put on the alternator ,Simplified version

Charging system is not charging. Battery and alternator good. Any ideas?

check the wires for corrotion at the terminals, especcially the ground wire is prone for problems with corrotion, check on both the alternator and the battery and where they connects to the chassis, also check the wires for other defects

After changing alternator and voltage regulator. Still not charging. 2nd $15.00 regulator replacment

Check your battery and check the ground wire from battery. Make sure all your wires are clean and good connections. A bad battery will not charge and a dead battery will not charge a alternator maintains a battery not charge a battery, so charge your battery completely before checking that the alternator is working. Check all the wires going to the starter for good tight and clean connections . Hope this helps...
