Question about Garmin GPS

1 Answer

My GPS will turn on and go to the warning screen and freeze. Once I unplug it from my power source it goes off immediately instead of staying on battery power. The battery is fully charged and I have tried turning it off and turning it back on several times

Thank you very much for the reply. I figured it was a battery problem but I just got it like two weeks ago so I didn't think it was possible. I'll have to call Garmin tomorrow. Thanks again.

From what u say the battery is defective, just because it seems charged doesn't mean the battery is any good, the fact the system only turns on when plugged in is a dead give away to a battery problem, it will not boot up with a defective battery. The battery is not owner replaceable, you must send it back to Garmin for service and battery replacement.

Be sure to update the firmware by running the Garmin WebUpdater.

It is not necessary to unplug the vehicle power cable as the unit will shut down automatically if the vehicle power source is not supplying power after the vehicle is turned off. If the vehicle power cable does continue to supply power, then a manual shut down can be done with the power switch on the nuvi but it is still not necessary to disconnect the vehicle power cable.

When I connect my Garmin Nuvi 200w to my car to charge it does not work. It just receive charge but does not work. If I disconnect it the GPS It work.

Are you using the garmin power cord or are you using an aftermarket cord? Some after market cords have usb plugs that although they plug right in to the power port on the unit, they tell the unit that you are updating the database. The unit displays only a picture of a computer connected to the unit and that's all it will do. Their is a way around this. Simply wait until the unit displays the about photo of the computer attached and then unplug the power cord from the unit. After the screen clears immediately replug in the power chord. This must be done quickly before anything appears on the screen. If you're too slow, simply repeat this step until you manage to replug the unit before anthing appears on the screen. Once plugged in as about the unit will operate normally on the external power source until you either turn it off or unplug it. Simple repeat above when ready to resume use.

When I plug in my vehicle power supply into my nuvi 250 gps, the computer symbol appears on the screen and my map will not return until I unplug the power source and turn on and off the gps unit. How do I...

This may be happening if you are connecting the GPS to the vehicle power source via USB cable, instead of the supplied power cord & cradle. If this is the case, try again not using the USB connection method.

If the tv has a built in discoder, it is the decoder at faulty, bypass the decoder using a dvd player, and if that plays then it will prove the decoder fault, the dvd signal is stronger than an external source, oh, by the way, unplug any source of dish/arial etc to the decoder, giving the dvd master control of the tv

In order to recalibrate the nuvi® 7xx's touch screen, follow the instructions below.

  1. Start with the unit powered OFF and unplugged from power supply.
  2. Press and hold your finger anywhere on the touch screen
  3. Next, slide the power switch ON and immediately slide it into the Lock position. There is no need to wait for the screen to flash on or show the Garmin logo before moving the switch into the Lock position.
  4. Leave your finger on the screen for about 45 seconds.
  5. Two intersecting lines should display on the screen along with the message: Press Dot.
Follow the rest of the on screen prompts to complete the screen recalibration. Once it is completed the unit will display Calibration Complete
