You will need to set your television on channel 3 or channel 4 then connect the power adapter into the back of your SEGA and plug it into the wall. Next, plug in the R/F cable into the SEGA and the other end into the back of your television (older televisions have the TV IN and ANTENNA OUT co-axle plugs. If you have a newer television, you will need to use the red, white and yellow RCA plugs and purchase an updated adapter for your Genesis. Now, plug the controller in and insert a game cartridge. Turn the power on

SOURCE: Need step by step directions to hook up a 16 bit Sega Genesis

There should be two plugs on the back of the sega. One for the power cord, and one for the audio/video cord. The audio/video cord is a coax cord with a little box in line. Hook your cable or antenna cable into the jack on the box and hook the end of the cable from the sega into your tv. There will be a switch on the sega or on the box somewhere that designates channel three or four, this is what channel your tv will need to be on to use the sega.

Just found the sega megadrive 16 bit II console and can't seem to get it working on the tv. Have connected the RV lead to the aerial and the console and have tried tuning in the tv to pick it up but...

Well try cleaning the gamepacks and the cartiage reader out with qutips and rubbing alchoal for the rf switch channel 3 or 4 only for the rf switch to work on those 2 channels.

We just purchased a Sega Genesis 16 bit sysyem...Model 1601. We do not have hook-up instructions. Would you be able to help us?

Hello,
Wow, that is a pretty vintage little game system you got there, but sure I can do the best I can blindfolded.
you should have gotten a A/V cable that ether has a RED/WHITE/YELLOW or a RF Co axe end.
If you got a A/V what you do is hook that to you TV where it says input.
If you got a RF coax you would need to hook that into the round cylinder input with a hole in the middle.
If its AV the tv would need to be put on input. If its the other the tv would need to be on channel 3.
Whatever the case may be please update me if you have any other questions.
Kind regards

How to hook sega genesis up to a flat screen tv

You need to hook up the cable coming in from the outside to one end of the Sega RF cable and hook the male end of the RF connector from the Sega into the cable input on the TV.On the back of the game console there is a channel selector switch. It is either CH3 or CH4 which is what your TV needs to be on when you turn on the console. If one looks bad try switching the channel selector on Sega and on the TV.
Good luck and game on!

Sega mega drive - how do I plug it into tv?

Ok, a few basics to hooking up your console. Firstly you should have two cords a power cord that plugs into the wall and into the back of the console. Another cord should also plug into the back of the console and the other end should be plugged into the back of the television into the slot called in. However if this plug is already taken by a vcr you can hook the cord from the sega up to the vcr in port. After it's all plugged in and the console and tv are on and it's directly hooked up to the tv then change the tv channel to 3 or 4 and you should have something on one of those channels. However if you hooked it up through the vcr then you have to go to the channel that normal has your vcr then change the channel on your vcr to 3 or 4. I think this is all you need to know good luck.
