Re: COMPUTER SAYS: DEVICE UNKNOWN!!!! HELP ME!
Mac: go to applications then utilities then open disk utility on the on the left side all the hard drives will be listed. click on your ipod then click erase, look here click "erase" and then "ok". when it is done disconnect the ipod, open itunes and reconnect the ipod. itunes will tell you the ipod is corrupted and i needs to restore it. click ok and then wait for it to complete the restore.
PC: go to start, my computer. in the new window your ipod's name will apear right click then click format. make sure that quic format is checked and then click "ok". when it is done disconnect the ipod, open itunes and reconnect the
ipod. itunes will tell you the ipod is corrupted and i needs to restore
it. click ok and then wait for it to complete the restore.
note: this might no work but will help in most cases, you hard drive may have just fail and then your out of luck

You have to install iTunes on your PC. without it, there's no way for you to recover that iPod touch from that state. CLICK HERE to download iTunes. If an AD appears, just click SKIP THIS AD on the top-right corner.
After the download is done, install iTunes. while that is going on, do the following steps to put your iPod to DFU mode:
Plug/connect your device to a computer (PC or Mac)
Turn it OFF
Press and hold the POWER and HOME buttons together for EXACTLY 10seconds
Release the POWER button but keep holding the HOME button until the computer beeps indicating that a USB device is recognized.
Open iTunes and restore your device.
Warning: Restoring will delete all data on your device but this is the only way for you to recover it.
If you don't get it at first, try holding the buttons for lesser time or see the other procedures and some screenshots on my tip (link below):
conenct the device to the computer
in itunes it will have your device down the side
then drag and drop your songs onto your player
then only disconnect the player when itunes says you can
then see if it works
Ok. first what you have to do is get iTunes. you go on the website. apple.com and click on iPod and iTunes. then you download it and it should say something about if you want quicktime to download too say yes or click ok. then after you have done that (depending upon what type of computer you have it will take a while). when you see the icon on your desktop open up iTunes and plug your iPod in. you can put CDs in iTunes and buy songs or if you dont feel like buying all those songs (DONT USE LIMEWIRE!!) use Free Studio Player 2.2. just google it and it should be one of the first links. you can download it and then get any youtube video or and mp3 from the vodeo. so you know what your getting. you just have to know the URL of the video. its easy and no viruses! so tell me what happens!
Install itunes on your computer for it to detect the ipod as a device , this will install all the necessary device drivers . Now your ipod will be detected by itunes . In the itunes window u can go to the itunes store and buy music or add to itunes library the music available on your hard drive.
stupid question i know but please make sure you hve downloaded the correct countries version of itunes - here in aust a lot of ppl accidentally download english version - it dont work. try uninstalling and reinstalling itunes if that doesnt work and try reseting unit itself - menu and centre button hold both down untill apple icon appears.......
You cannot use Itunes for anything except an Ipod device. And any files you get from the Itunes or Rhapsody for example are copy protected and require specific software to copy to an MP3 player.
If your songs are in MP3 format (not downloaded from Itunes or another subscription site) then you can set your Sansa to "MSC" mode which makes it act like a flash drive. Then you can just drag files to the "MUSIC" folder on the sansa.
If this is on an Apple computer things are different - if you are let us know.
