The solution of this problem almost totally depends on the acoustics of the room this is played in and each particular song or musical passage, there is no one size fits setting, I will give u this tip, try and keep the base low, it is the single biggest cause of distortion, just use enough base so the passage deson't sound "tinny" use the mid-range to add depth and use moderate high end levels, run the volume no higher than needed for sound dispersion to the entire room, make sure u have heavy wiring to the speakers, many times excessive resistance to the speakers caused by inadequate wire size can cause distortion.
