95% of the time it's a dead laser . A new laser cost 20.00-30.00
and there a many sources , I buy 50 at a time from Richs PSX
Rich sells new laser , so be careful when you buy from ebay
most of those laser are use. Installing the laser takes about 20min
and with the help from a free online tutorial it's not that hard .
or you can have a shop swap it out for 60.00-70.00 choice is
yours.

If you have any questions feel free to ask.

I can't play any games on mmy360

Are you referring to your xbox won't read game disc, or it won't load any downloaded game on your xbox and games on disc?

If it is your disc drive, this may be a major issue to the point where your disc drive no longer works, and you will have to take it in somewhere to get it replaced, or it could just be that your disc drive is dirty and you simple just need to clean the disc tray off.

If it isn't loading any games at all, you may just have a stalled xbox and need to turn it off and give it a minute or two. If that doesn't happen to be the case, your storage on the xbox could be full, causing your xbox to run slower and not cooperate. If it is full I would suggest in deleting memory of any useless apps or games, or invest in purchasing external hard drive or a larger memory Universal Serial Bus.

Now this is the final possible solution I could give you, if it is a disc problem. This is could be extremely difficult to do, but from personal experience 9/10 times it works.

Make sure to start with no disc in the drive and the Xbox is turned on. And you have a blunt object like your controller.
1. Turn the Xbox on its side laying down
2. Open the disc drive and put your disc in. Now close it.
3. Now while your xbox is trying to read the disc, just simply starting lightly-medium strength hit the top of your xbox in the general area of where the disc is until the xbox can read it or declares it can't.

This is won't necessarily work first try, but although it sounds stupid it does work for me.

What Is It? The Disc Read error is a simple one. It simply means that the Xbox is unable to read the disc that you have placed in the drive. In the majority of instances, this error has nothing to do with the functionality of the console, but, rather, hinges on the actual disc that has been inserted into the DVD tray.
Disc-Related Errors The most common reason for Disc Read errors are related to the disc itself. Numerous conditions can keep the laser from reading the information contained within the game, DVD or CD in the DVD drive.
  • The disc is scratched - Game discs, audio CDs and DVDs can become scratched very easily. Usually this is because they have not been kept in their cases, but left in the open. Simply resting two discs atop one another can scratch the bottom disc. If discs are sufficiently scratched, the data contained on them will be inaccessible to the drive.
  • The disc is dirty/dusty - Dirt and dust can build up on the faces of discs left exposed. When sufficient dirt or dust has built up, it can block the laser beam used to read the disc, resulting in a Disc Read error.
  • The disc is the incorrect region - DVDs come in formats called "regions." These regions match the region specified in the software of the DVD player. Some games also have these regions. If the region of the DVD and that of the player do not match, the disc will not play.
Can I Fix These Errors? Repairing disc-related issues may or may not be possible. If the cause is simply dirt and dust, you can certainly repair the disc. However, if the cause is due to extreme scratching, then replacing the disc is likely your only choice. If the disc is from the incorrect region or from another country, you will have to obtain the correct region. Returning the disc to the retailer for exchange may work.
Non-Disc Related Errors As mentioned, there can be some Disc Read errors that have nothing to do with the disc at all. In this case, it's time to troubleshoot the Xbox.
  • First, simply try to reboot the machine. Often, this will flush the cache or other error and allow the game to operate or the disc to play.
  • Second, try removing the hard drive and/or memory units. Once removed, reboot the console and attempt to load the disc with the hard drive and memory out of the unit. If this works, you can simply shutdown and reinstall the hard drive.
  • Attempt to play the disc in another type of player. For instance, attempt to play the DVD in another DVD player or the CD in a CD player. If the disc plays in these players, you may need to clean the Xbox DVD player.
  • Check to make sure that all air vents are open and are able to provide sufficient airflow. Overheating can cause Disc Read errors, as well. In addition, ensure that the power supply is unobstructed and uncovered. Much like the Xbox 360, the power supply can become quite hot and can cause errors if unventilated.
  • Check for disc tray errors. Depress the eject button and watch the tray extend. If the tray partially extends and then retracts immediately, you may have a problem with the DVD drive. If your Xbox is under warranty, this can be replaced at no charge. However, if you are out of warranty, you can install a new DVD drive on your own.
  • As a note, make sure that the new DVD drive comes with the same firmware as your original console, or you may experience additional error codes after the installation of the new DVD drive.

Im sorry for a repeated type question but i was hoping i could get some assistance with my xbox 360 problem.. okay, first the cd tray would not open and i would have to jiggle it on the left side of the...

The best way to resolve this problem is to replace the entire drive - you can get a replacement drive online. Use Google to find several vendors to choose from. It sound like the laser lens is trying to focus but cannot and thus you hear the lens rubbing against the disc - this can ruin many of your valuable games you have recently inserted in the drive. DO NOT INSERT ANYMORE DISC INTO IT!

My 360 will not play any disks, and makes a grinding sounds when the disk is inside. It's only 8 months old, and everything is stock.

If it makes grinding sounds while a disc is inside it, then it has probably got something to do with the motor spinning the disc. Something is either preventing it from spinning (excess dust can do this) or it's on it way to dying. Best bet is to call Microsoft and ask them for a repair order. With your X-box only being 8 months old, it should still be under warranty and therefor should cost you nothing to fix :)

After loading a disc it says "no disc"

Clean the lens with a soft cotton cloth but be careful not to touch it with bare hands. Make sure the lens is not soiled with dust.
Note: if it says 'NO DISC" immediately after closing the tray, check capstan motor if spins smoothly. It is the one spinning the disc. Open the unit's casing to have a view of the disc when playing. If it doesn't spin, replace capstan motor.

Xbox wont start spinning disc

Sounds like your drive died. Try looking inside to make sure nothing is stuck insde the drive (disc label, another disc, lumps of dust). Try spraying it out with canned air (they sell it at computer stores). If not.. send it to microsoft for repair.
