I need to know if an hp scanjet 5470c carries a power cord if not then what gives it power

First, a power adapter is required to connect your scanner. the power adapter must be supplied with the scanner. If your scanjet 5470c scanner is having USB interface or connectivity, then you need USB cable and if it is SCSI interface, then you need SCSi cable to connect to your PC. You are very unlucky : there are no drivers beyond XP . Your device is no more compatible with Windows 7. See from yourself here :

Scanjet 5470c does'nt work under W 7 . No drivers available .
Here are a few hints :
1° hint :
Do not connect scanner .
Load XP driver ( yes , XP) , reboot , connect scanner and wait for confirmation of successfull operation .
Reboot .
Dowload and install FreeKapture ( yes , it's free ) from http://download.cnet.com/FreeKapture/3000-2094_4-10673689.html
Open Freekapture , clic on Scan and select WIA-Hewlett-Packard . Scanjet 4470c works fine in this mode but if you choose HP PrecisionScan Pro , program will hang .
In any case , no slides or negatives scans possible but the rest works .
2° hint :
If you have the W XP install disc , you could install a virtual version of W XP on your HDD ( http://downloads.vmware.com/d/info/desktop_downloads/vmware_player/3_0 ) You could also partition your HDD ( http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html ) and install W XP on the new one . No power to hp 5470c scanjet. Have not used it for about 6 months. Now can get 0 power. Could it be the power adapter? Or is it in the machine? Have tried different electrical outlets and still no power

Dear go to www.hp.com click on support and drivers then enter your product model now you choose your operating system and download driver free.
First install its software or driver only then you should attach your scanner (when your computer demand or required for its attachment).

yes folks it is the power supply,
replacments are hard to find but you can make your own, see seperate problem on this site. easy if you just want the scanner harder if you need the adf as well

First of all, use a lamp, fan or something to check your electrical outlets. Make sure they are not on a switched circuit, or a power strip that may be turned off. Try unplugging the cord from the scanner and re-inserting it. I don't know if there is a fuse inside the 5470, but I would bet on it. If all else fails and you feel competent to try it, see if you can disassemble the bottom and look for the fuse. Usually sudden problems like this are really something simple (or catastrophic!! :-) Good luck, John
