If the samsung hmo 6011 harddrive (couldn't find that model) is SATA then yes, and SATA drive will work. The only thing to make sure is that you get the right size; for a laptop or PC. If the samsung hmo 6011 harddrive is IDE (has pins) then no, they cannot directly replace with a SATA.
Here is a good comparison picture http://www.laptopparts101.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/sata-ide-laptop-hard-drive.jpg

Connections to the hard drive

The Harddrive is a SATA unit.

Uses a SATA data cable, and a SATA power cable.

SATA data cable, and connector on motherboard, example;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:SATA_ports.jpg

Between the SATA data cable connector, and the SATA power cable connector; the SATA data cable connector is the shorter of the two in width.
SATA data cable connector has 7-pins.
SATA power cable connector has 15-pins.

The connector end used on the harddrive side, and optical drive side, (CD/DVD drive), is usually a 90 degree Bent Elbow.
The connector end that plugs into the motherboard, is a Straight connector.

NOTE* Color of connectors does NOT matter.
Most of the time the SATA data connectors on the motherboard, are different colors.

This is to help discern what number of SATA data connector it is.
Four SATA data connectors on the motherboard?

SATA 1, SATA 2, SATA 3, and SATA 4;
Or:
SATA 0, SATA 1, SATA 2, and SATA 3?

SATA 0, or SATA 1, is usually reserved for the Harddrive.
The Primary harddrive with the Operating System on it.
(Unless you have harddrives set in a RAID configuration)

DOES NOT MATTER WHAT SATA DATA CONNECTOR, you plug into, on the motherboard.

Want to plug the harddrive into SATA 3, or SATA 4?
Go ahead.
NO matter what SATA connector on the motherboard that you plug into, BIOS will find the harddrive.

Note the L-shape in the connector.
Has to line up on the L-shape on the harddrive, optical drive, or motherboard, SATA data connector.

There is usually a lock on the connector. This you may not see.
Sometimes there is a little 'bump' on the connector. Depress with the thumbnail to install the cable, or remove.

This is an example of a SATA power cable,

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#sata

NOTE*
IF, your SATA harddrive has a provision for plugging in a SATA power cable, AND a 4-pin Peripheral power cable; ONLY plug the SATA power cable in.

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#peripheral

Using BOTH types of power cables will BURN the harddrive up.
May not happen right away, but I assure you it will happen.

Hi, the USB connection on the hard drive has come loose, how do I fix this? Do I need a new case or housing? Thanks

Yes sir it can, and your first conclusion was correct. The external enclosure itself is replaced.

There are two types of harddrives used at present. The old technology of IDE (PATA), and the newer technology of SATA.

You have a 2TeraByte Western Digital harddrive. (2.0TB)
Due to it's size I know it uses the SATA technology.

However look on the harddrive's label, and see if it states SATA, or look up the manufacturer code on the label, on the internet.

Example; WD2500BEVS
Western Digital harddrive that is 250GB in size, and uses the SATA technology.

Harddrives also come in two main sizes.
Laptop computer harddrives are 2.5 inches across in width.
2-1/2 Inches.
Desktop computer harddrives are 3.5 inches across in width.
3-1/2 inches.

From the camera views I can see it is a desktop size harddrive.

So,
1) SATA
2) Desktop size harddrive - 3.5

If the above holds true you need a 3.5 SATA external enclosure.
This is but one example,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3672394&CatId=2780

The external enclosure has the small interface circuit board, with the USB cable attached to it.

About 2 months ago I bought a samsung s2 portable 1Tb. It has worked fine until yesterday. It slipped down from where it was laying (while plugged in and running) and was hanging the 20 cm usb-cabel. Now I...

Hanging by the 20cm USB cable?

The cable could be stretched, and wires broken inside.
The cable to small circuit board, inside the case, could have broken solder joints.
The circuit board inside the Samsung's case could be broken.

Inside that small outer case of the Samsung portable is a laptop size Harddrive.
The harddrive measures 2.5 inches across in width.

(6.4cm. In comparison a desktop size harddrive is 3.5 inches across in width, or 8.9cm)

The harddrive is a SATA unit also.

This is a general example of a 2.5 SATA harddrive,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148591

Inside the outer case (External Enclosure) is also a small circuit board (PCB)
The harddrive plugs into the small circuit board, and the circuit board has a USB cable attached to it.

(Or there is a small cable from circuit board to harddrive. Then a USB cable to the circuit board)

I would suggest removing the 2.5 SATA harddrive, and install it into an economical external enclosure.

Example of a 2.5 SATA External Enclosure,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3195233&CatId=2783

Basic guidance in removing the Harddrive from a Samsung S2 Portable,

1) It looks as though the outside front is a thick cover like a label. It may be that you peel back the corners, and there will be a screw in each corner.

(For example; Where it states Samsung. Go to the right corner. Does this cover-like material peel back? Is there a screw underneath? Remove it.
Go to the opposite corner. Now above to the left and right corners)

The unit looks to come apart in two halves.

Might just be held together by sticky tape.

Here are some videos performing opening the external enclosure, (Case) of other external portable harddrives,

2) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2vUMO2mGLE&feature=related

There are other related videos. In general most are not very professional, but get the job done.

Sata harddrive

You need to enter the BIOS and check to see if the sata drives are enable cause if there aren't then you'll always get that response and seems as tho you waste your money.

Also you must have the sata drive on primary.
