Question about Infinity TSS-750 System

1 Answer

My subwoofer is making a regular thumping noise every 3 or 4 seconds. I had it unplugged for along time and just hooked it back up. It makes the sound regardless of where its plugged in and even if it's not connected to the receiver.

If you can replace the subwoofer, do it! Unless, your whole sound system is based on it. problem inside of subwoofer's internal amp. It's an active subwoofer, must be replaced with same kind. otherwise, take unit to local repair shop for diagnostics and repair. it might be some capacitors gone bad, may be IC chip is at fault. anyway, not do it yourself, unless you're an electronics expert.
good luck,

Hiya, could be the power supply or possibly the amp circuit that has gone. If there are electronic guys in your area, they should be able to sort it out relatively easily. Get a quote first, make sure it is in economical repair as well, but it can be repaired

Thump at the time of shutoff

The amplifier in the sub as with any other amplifier has a capacitor in it. Essentially a battery that holds a charge. When you trun things off such as subs or amps with a powerstrip instead of the intended on off button, the power supply has been cut, but the capacitor is still energizing the unit. So it catches the noise in the line.

Subwoofer "thumping" w. no audio feed

You need to check your ground connection. If there is a bad ground there will be feedback to the amp and it will just sit there and loop back with the Thump, Thump, Thump sound. I had to wire my amp's ground all the way back to the negative battery terminal. It was a pain but I have never had a problem since :)

Thumping Subwoofer

Ive seen this problem in alot of audio setups in vehicles but most peeps dont know this is not a good thing and will cause damage to your woofers or amp. 99% of the time it turns out to be as you said that bad boy muting circuit. alot of these curcuits do use separate transitors or diodes as mute switches but most of them are directly from the Microproccessor. Only way to trouble shoot this is with a schematic and a good car stereo tech. Good luck
