Question about Video Cameras

1 Answer

Camcorder Somehow, somewhere I have misplaced the battery charger for my Sony HandiCam. I hadn't uses it for over a year, but it's disappeared. The manual calls for a AC-10A/10B/10C. I have a charger for my Sony digital camera that is a AC-L15. The battery is rated at 7.2V, 10Wh. Question: if I try to connect the camera charger to the HandiCam battery, will I blow it up ??

The General Rule is: if it's the same manufacturer (which it is in this case) if the connector fits then it will work. Manufacturers generally tend to change connectors designs whenever they move on to a different charging "platform" (which includes voltage, current, polatiry and other caracteristics.

However to be absolutely sure, I would first verify that the voltage isn't too off between your old and new charger.

I can't charge my sony handycam DCR-HC42E

Remove the battery from the handicam and place it again. See if it helps.

If not, then most probably, the life of the battery is over. If so, buy a new battery.

There is a possibility that the charger of the handicam has become faulty. If so, you shall have to buy a new charger.

If removing the battery and placing it back does not help, then you may want to show it to a good technician to assess whether it is a battery problem or the charger problem.

Testing a video cam battery's ability to charge

The chargers are usually pretty reliable. You could check it with a voltmeter. I've never replaced one that someone hadn;t dropped or damaged. They just keep woring.

Usually it is the battery. If it had less and less usefull life before it stopped then it definitly is the battery then. If it is more than a few years old it would also indicate the battery.

Usb driver problem

the fault lies with the company for not creating vista drivers.

but calm down, dude. Is there something wrong with using XP? everyone knows vista is rife with driver issues, surely you didn't ENTIRELY expect something made for XP would definitely work on Vista? That's just a bit naive.

I think the issue here ("I am having problems with the compatability with my sony handicam dcr-30 and windows vista.") is in attempt to acquire drivers or workarounds for the problem.

I myself have a slightly different model, but have heard that using a firewire cable, in conjunction with a mysterious 'work in XP mode' function hidden somewhere in Vista (Ultimate?) has proved to be a success with some Sony Handycams.

This is the sort of thing we're meant to be talking about here, and nobody's gonna benefit from merely bashing the reputation of the company responsible, no matter how frustrating it may be.

if all the indicators i.e. battery condition, play mark, counter, etc are visible on the screen then it can be a simple problem of dirty video head. try using a head cleaning cassette or do the head cleaning manually, Open the cover by removing three screws on the right hand side next to the viewfinder. Slide it little towards front and pick it up. The video head will be visible.

My Hitachi VM H710A plays just fine, and the picture looks fine. But when it playsback footage or records footage, five to ten seconds later, it stops abruptly, and flashes the word "TAPE". First thing I must add, is that I was using a prerecorded videotape, and was testing it from the beginning of the cassette and the middle of the cassette. I thought maybe the heads were dirty, and so I cleaned them using a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol. I cleaned the head drum with a piece of paper soaked with rubbing alcohol so that I wouldn't get any fibres in the heads. I waited for it to dry and then I put a cleaning cassette inside. To which, it still stopped abruptly five to ten seconds in during playback. I then decided to look at the manual of the camcorder and see the symptom. It says that due to temperature changes that it might cause this symptom. I placed it in a cool room and left it there all day and checked on it, and the camcorder is still doing the same thing as before hand. Then another cause said that it might sense some moisture. I made sure that the camcorder was dry externally and internally, and yet still, same problem. Thats when I decided to take it apart and look inside to see if there was anything odd inside the camcorder causing it to function the way it does. The belt seemed to be working fine, and there was no missing parts. The tracking poles and path alignment was fine, and not loose. Everything simply seemed just fine. So I am unsure as to why my camcorder is operating like this.
