Question about Dell Dimension 5150 (DIM515MIN) PC Desktop

Connecting Dell Dimension 5150 PC to HP Officejet Pro L7580

When I try to connect my pc to the printer via the usb port the printer goes haywire - lights go on and off and the display requests that I turn the printer off and then on again. The pc does not seem to recognize the printer either. I've tried this by connecting different usb cables to different ports but no change. The printer seems to work independently of the pc. HP have even replaced the printer saying it must be a hardware issue with the printer. I had the same problem with the second printer. They're only solution is to send me yet another printer; which I doubt will fix the problem.

Hi,

If your PC is not recognising it then the printer is not functioning properly.Whn you connect your printer to the USB do you get a something like "This device has malfunctioned" if yes then it is the fault of your printer.

Does your PC reckonize the printer when you connect the usb to it?? ave you tried before connection the printer to click on start and control panel then printer to see if it is there ?? If no try to add it and use the driver disk that came with it.You can also look in system folder at the contol panel screen after it opens click on Hardware Tab then click on deivce mgr to see if you have any confils under the printer.let me know

Uninstall all printer software and drivers then restart w/o the printer connected. install the software 1st when it checks 4 printer thats when u plug it in.Also check your ink cartidges. what is the model of printer?also update your drivers .in your boot up is usd devices part of your boot? that would be in your bios settings.did you have a printer before?need more info.

I have a Dell Dim 2400 and no connection with HP Deskjet 3070A.


Charles, has this combination worked previously, have you been able to print from your Dell Dimension 2400 to your HP Deskjet 3070A successfully?

If the answer to the above is Yes, then if you believe that the printer is still working correctly and you can test this with a different computer able to print to it, you should consider uninstalling and re-installing the HP software and device drivers for this printer.

If you have not printed to this printer successfully previously, have you tested the printer with a different computer and proven it is still working fine?

If the printer works fine to a different computer then providing you are using the same USB cable to connect to your Dell 2400, the problem needs to be narrowed down further.

Check that you can plus other USB devices into the port on the Dell used for the HP printer - if these work, then your USB port is good - if not, try another port if you have one.

If your USB hardware is good, then again you are left with the need to uninstall and re-install the HP software and device drivers - it may be worth trying to download the latest version of such software if available. HP tend to update their All-in-One software on a regular basis.

Installing hp 5150 printer gets hung up on last phase searching for hardware


generally, this works for me: Make sure the printer is disconnected, uninstall the driver, reboot
download the latest driver from HP.com
Run the install and when prompted, turn on printer, then connect the USB cable to the computer and let it detect.
If the printer still doesn't install normally try this

Is it USB connnected to the PC? If so, check to see what the webcam requirements are in terms of USB 1.0 or 2.0 and compare that to what your PC has.

Next, how much memory does your PC have? Check for any requirements in the web cam literature.

Also check to see what requirements there may be for sound reproduction and whether or not your sound card is compatible.

Finally, check the specs on your PC and see how much video memory there is and especially if it's shared with the main PC processor. You may be able to install a separate video card that could help if it is shared, but for a 5 year old machine it may not be worth it.

Assuming you have SP 3 on 2000, it's possible the USB ports are bad.  Try a different USB device ie mouse, flash drive etc to verify whether the USB port is bad.  If this is the case, you can either purchase a USB 2.0 card and install it on your PC or run without USB ports.

Wireless communication to printer from pc is lost


You may be having an issue with an usb hub try connecting it to another usb port. If this is a notebook and you are connecting it through a port replicator disconnecting the notebook from the replicator can cause you to loose connection to the printers.

My Dell Dimension 2400 does not recognize plug & play for my HP OfficeJet Pro L7650 all-in-one. If I add the all-in-one manually, the computer says it's offline. I've uninstalled & reinstalled the...


My solution was very simple...I just threw my computer out the window! Seriously, the problem has not been resolved...it seems that several types of Dell computers (in my case, the Dimension) have a problem with HP all-in-ones with regard to the USB 2.0 having enough power to recognize the plug and play option when installing the HP product. Dell's only solution (that I could find) is to operate the HP product thru a USB hub...so I guess I'll try that first and, if it still doesn't work, I'll probably just upgrade to a newer non-Dell Dimension computer.

Dell usb problems


the only thing i can think of is your usb support in the bios settings which can be accessed by pressing del button while the comp is starting that option should be enabled if that doesnt work i think your keyboard and mouse might need replacing i can't see all usb ports being faulty it's very unlikely jim regards
