Question about Whirlpool Dryers

1 Answer

I have a whirlpool imperial dryer, I am not certain of the age or model number. I replaced the electrical cord after a move with a 4 wire instead of the 3 wire that was on it. The dryer operates it turns counter clockwise and it heats up but it does not dry the clothes. I changed the hot wires around hoping I had them wrong but it operates the same, any idea what the problem might be?

If it's heating up and the drum is spinning then you have a blocked vent line or the duct that the lint filter slides into is plugged with lint,if your vent line is long blow it out with a leaf blower, like i said you need to clean and vac out the duct that the filter slides into and vac out the inside of dryer where the motor is,you should do this once a year so you don't have a fire and your clothes will dry correctly

Just moved and outlet for dryer is different.

Connect the red, black, and white wires of the new cord to where the red, black, and white wires of the original dryer wires are connected to but disconnect the ground wire (green/yellow wire attached to the cabinet) from where the white wire is connected to and connect it instead to the fourth green/yellow wire of the new cord.

Trying to replace a three prong electrical cord with a four prong one.

Dryer wiring (3 wires to 4) If ya move or get a new dryer and need a 4 wire setup instead of a 3 this might be of interest: Look at the terminal block. Most dryers have a red wire on one side, a black wire on the other side, and a white wire in the middle. I put my red to red white to white and black to black as pictured in the above link. The green ground wire gets bolted to the frame.

Hello. Now that you are upgrading to the four prong you should unhook the green wire with yellow strip coming from the dryer and instead attach the extra green ground cord on the 4 prong to the screw on the side of the dryer. Regards, Joe.

My whirlpool gas dryer is not starting. the thermal fuse reads fine. I have a 4 wire thermostat next to the fuse. I have continuity between 2 wires. What should I have between the other 2?

Unplug the dryer, and remove one of the wires on the white fuse next to the 4 wire thermostat. If there is continuity on the fuse, then check the door switch. You can do an audible check just by pressing the button in or moving the lever in, which ever you have. Make sure that the motor is not covered with lint as it could have shut off thermally which takes about a half hour or so to reset if it has no air flow. Depending on the model, ( you never stated or the age ) there is another fuse that could be out also that needs checked. The things on this circuit that makes it run are, the wall outlet, the cord, the timer, door switch, internal fuses, the motor and wires, which could be burnt or chewed or simply loose.

Whirlpool Estate Dryer barely heating

Four wires on the new cord.
Red and Black go to outside screws on the terminal.
White goes to the middle terminal.
Green goes to the cabinet ground screw near the terminal plate cover.
