Question about Sony STR-DG820 Receiver

1 Answer

Picture/audio problems on my HDTV

Connecting my sony STR-DG820 reciever with a scientific atlanta Explorer 4250HDC cable box causes pixelation problems on my phillips 42'' HDTV - certain channels and not all the time. The screen on the TV will **** around and get broken up (series of squares) and the audio becomes distorted. My components are connected via HDMI. This will occur on channels 1-100 and above and on HD channels. Cox Communications is my service provider. Any help/incite will be apprecated. Believe that is a problem with either the reciever or cable box.
thanks,
Rob

This is a cable box problem. Could be a lack of signal stregnth or bad HDMI output.

The SA boxes have a very bad history of this, try using the component video output and see if the problem persists.

The HDMI is a real glass jaw of those boxes; but this problem could absolutly be your incoming signal...high def channels require more signal strength and that is what causes audio drops, pixilation and flicker.

If it was the HDMI in the receiver/tv you would get:

- Black screen, Pink fuzz or green streak dropouts.
- "Fireflies"
- Audio cutting in and out
- Not pixilation!

So what is my approach? If the box is rented or under warranty get it replaced. If the problem persists then call your cable company and arrange a service call at their expense.

If the box is not under warrenty go ahead and call the cable company and complain about a poor signal. If the signal is good, use the component video output...it looks almost identical anyway.

Let me know if this helps,

Cheers!

How do I connect a Sony DVD DVP-SR210P to a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 4240 HDC and a Sylvania TV C320SLX?

I am not sure you can connect your DVD player to your cable box. You should be able to connect both your cable box and DVD player to your TV set with two HDMI cables. This link is a pdf_usecares file of the TV manual that shows how to hook up your dad and cable box.

It is your Cable Feed. Secondly, if you have one of the old "Black" Scientific Atlanta boxes roughly 10x8x2, make them exchange it for a Motorolla if possible. Make sure the feed to the cable box is RG-6 Quad shield RG-59 or RG-6 dual shield won't cut it. Then make them meter the feed to the house from the box. If you have the option, Go to FIOS from verizon. No comparason! same price, very, very few headaches! and the service blows cable away!!! If you need further help, post a reply with all the vital info: make, model, etc of your electronics and how old your existing cable to the house and into the house is. It will help alot. Hope this helps!

I am setting up Sony A/V Rcvr and cannot get video

hi my names josh your feeds arent going to feed out through that hdmi if your have hdmi coming in you will get that signal going out however depending on what your signal source is for the rest of your compenents that will determine your problem for instance if you if your runing all compenent which y p b or video which is just standard yellow red and white cables you have to stay with one or the other what you go into your reciever with you must go out with if analog wich is just video and audio you have to go out through your monitor out source to get a picure if compenent whic by the way will produce a far greater picture it is your y p and b jacks and the color of those are green blue and red those are just for picture only not audio you have to still run audio with these cables you go in the unit with those you have to go out with those directly to your tv then you want check you reciever video setting to make sure it is set for that and well as your tv to make sure you are in the right monitor or screen to get your picture

Sony str-dg820. having a problem getting video on tv

Hook up Composite / Component Monitor Out wire from receiver to TV video input because receiver will not change analog input into HDMI
You need to connect receiver and TV through analog video terminals as above.
Actually you are expecting that receiver will convert DVD player and Xbox analog video input into digital HDMI signal for TV and This is incorrect.

Off Air?

The Scientific Atlanta box was a cable box and recieved CATV signals. The Direct TV box is satellite only. You might check if it has a built in ATSC tuner for off air digital signals. Direct TV in most locations offers the major networks in HD format.
