Technician HomeDesigner provided great support on my problem with two of these shredders. I removed considerable paper from both units and suspect that each user had overloaded the shredder, then run it until the line-in fuse had burnt out, stopping the unit and preventing its being restarted.

Both devices are clean and operational.

Problem solved with help from HomeDesigner. User had overloaded device and run it with a jam until line-in fuse burned out. After clearing jam, cleaning device and replacing fuse, shredder is back in action.

Note to HomeDesigner: orientation of the motor leads matters. Rectified AC drives motor - if it spins the wrong way after reassembly, switch the leads!

My shredder is not working does it have a fuse somewhere

The shredder may be so clogged, with plastic for example, that the motor overheated and went into thermal shutdown. It also is possible that the input sensor is blocked. My experience with shredders that have been used to shred any type of plastic or plastic coated paper is that they are a complete mess inside.

My EPS-1501X has photo sensors that stops the motor from running when the paper reaches a certain height. How does this regulate the overflow?

From what I have seen on mine, there are three sensors: one to detect if the door is open, one to detect when the unit is full, and one to detect when material is fed.
As for mine, the unit would not start when it was fed. Once I opened it, I saw the photo sensor was missing a screw. I realigned the bezels and added the screw. However, once I reassembled it, the unit still had the same issue.
Now, I suspect that it is the control board. I have no time to get into that, but it does not look too difficult.
I searched the internet for support, but there seems to be no company presence available. So, I think I am stuck manually triggering and stopping the motor.
It is an amazing shredder otherwise and I would not even consider replacing it. At least, not until the motor fails.
From what I have seen inside, I doubt that will be anytime soon...

Doesn't work in auto position but works in reverse

Most likely your optic sensor has something in front of it. Clean out the unit really well. It does take time, about 3 different screwdrivers, lon pliers and tweezers and a vacuum or compressed air. After that, learning more new words and swearing to god you will never let this happen again until the third time.

Why doesn't OfficeMax OM99732 shredder work on Auto?

My shredder would not sense paper being inserted and the sensor could not be cleaned. So "Auto" no longer worked but the manual reverse DID work. I opened the thing up, reversed the polarity on the red and black wires on the connector for the main drive motor and VOILA!!! I can use my shredder in manual mode by switching it to REV. Be mindful that this keeps the motor running until it is switched off. This can heat the motor and cause failure so I limit my shredding to 60 seconds then give it a rest so it will cool down. Also there is no emergency reverse so watch your fingers and neck ties.

I have an Ativia 6000 shredder. The red light comes on and the shredder stops, after only shredding a few papers..why?

If place too many pages in the shredder the motor will be overworked and it will overheat and shut down until it has cooled down. Try shredding fewer pages at a time.

Hello my nane is Tom. The shredder doesn't work. It will run in reverse but when I turn it to forward it run for a second or two than stops. I looked and I can't see anything jamed in it.

I got mine to work by running it on reverse for a moment then sliding it to auto. It stopped. Then I did it again. This time auto ran just for a second then stopped. I did it a third time but I had a sheet of paper ready in the feeder. Ran on reverse. Slid it to auto and it took the paper and shred it. I did it a fourth time. Reverse slide auto and feed shred the paper. Fifth time Auto shred the paper without reverse. :)

My Staples Shredder, model # SPL-S302D will stop shredding in the middle of a job or immediately after starting to shred. It is a strip-cut style shredder, I use lubricating sheets once in a while on it,...

You can clean the sensor with a alcohol and be sure there is no jam occur. If it doing fine then it's work and there's no more problem. Always clean it, a jam can cause motor to heat up and it's winding will be burnt.
I hope my advice help you.

Try running the shredder in reverse and oiling the blades. More help with paper shredder oil here: http://hubpages.com/hub/Paper-Shredder-Oil

If you can't get the paper shredder up and running, it looks like you might have to pick up a new paper shredder. Paper shredders can be pretty cheap though, great guide to cheap paper shredders here: http://hubpages.com/hub/Best-Paper-Shredders

Hi My PC Line shredder goes backwards as long as I want but will not go forward long enough to shred one sheet of A4.

If your shredder has an auto sensor "eye"to start it up automatically, check that it is clean you will see two windows near the paper mouth- give them a clean first thing. if not migvht be a switch or a burnt out motor in the forward direction ( or control circuitry)
Hope that helps
