Cant get rear, center or subwoofer to turn on

I had hooked up my speakers to the stereo i can not get the stereo to send power to the center speaker, rear speakers or the subwoofer. The lights on the display are not lit up for those speakers and i cant figure out how to turn them on? I have bose acoustmass 10 speakers hooked up to it if that has something to do with it.

Is there a working 'stake in the ground' in this scenario? Or is everything new and untested?

The configuration of your speakers from your receiver's perspective must be determined first.

Start with setup. If you ran Auto Setup (page 25 of the manual) and it DIDN'T find anything but Front Speakers, follow its recommendations.

If you didn't, do that now. If that fails, select the Manual Mode (page 63).

If you don't have the manual, go to retrevo.com, register and download it for free.

Of course, the problem could also be with how the Bose is set up. Find that manual at Bose.com.

Check your wiring, surf web for installation manual. Ther is a knob, switch somewhere on your unit that controls stereo, 7.1 , accoustical fields, (jazz, rock, concert, etc...)

Hello,
In a surround sound system, the correct way to listen to music is in stereo mode which will play out of your left and right channels and your subwoofer. When viewing a movie with surround sound, then you should use your rear speakers. The key element to remember is that rear speakers are only intended to play your sound effects, and will not play full range audio. Thats what your fronts and center are for. If you simply want to override this, than you will need to select the direct sound field on your receiver and than it will send full range audio to all speakers connected. Most likely, its not going to sound that good. If you dont know what each sound field does, here is a list and function of the most commonly used ones.
Stereo-Front Left and Right speakers including subwoofer
Dolby Digital or PLII Movie-these are the bost options for your surround sound
Direct-All speakers connected get full range signal
Good Luck

Is it possible to hook up a powered subwoofer to this unit? It has a centre pre-out, but nothing labelled for a sub, and the manual is useless. This is a very nice old receiver, works perfectly, and I'm...

I own 2 of these Pioneer VSX-D903S units.

The only way to hook a powered subwoofer up to a VSXD903S is if your subwoofer is equipped with amplified/speaker level terminals on the back, in addition to the line-level input. If you only have a line-level input, do not attempt to hook it up to this receiver.

If you're lucky, and have speaker-level inputs on your powered subwoofer, you would use the amplified terminals (connect to B-channel on the receiver). DO NOT connect anything to the line-level connection.

Alternatively, you could build two unpowered subwoofers, then set the receiver's Impedance switch to LOW, then connect one enclosure to each of the "B-channel" outputs. Connect your regular left and right speakers to their corresponding "A-channel" outputs. [Impedance range: 4 Ohm minimum, 16 Ohm Maximum]

(To the guy [dunnbiker] that says there's no rear channels: You're wrong.) The VSX-D903S has 2 stereo (A/B) channels, dual center channel (place center speakers to the left and right, or above and below the screen), and two rear satellite channels. It is a 3-Ch Logic/Dolby Pro-Logic Surround equipped receiver, not a DolbyDigital/DTS multichannel x.1 surround unit.

Rewire your stereo cables as such:

Red- positive - battery
Black - ground - chassis
Remote (Yellow) - ignition switch

The "LINE OUT" should go to your SUB-WOOFER.

The while-lined wires paired with the solid colored wires are either your Front LR and/or Rear L/R.

Rear speakers are dead, never got them to work. Changed front to back and rears work so speakers and wireing are good. Is it possible that because I did not hook up a center speaker this is the problem?

if its a 5.1 channels it means 2 front speakers,2 rear speakers or either the center speaker or the subwoofer.try to hook up either center speaker or subwoofer.
