Tried all options. Hooked up cable to back and selected auto program, but every channel it programmed was the same channel it was originally on. Pushing channel up and down doesn't turn it off the channel. It just flickers like it wants to change channels

You do not indicate if you have auto programmed the television to get digital channels, If you are selecting a channel without a decimal point, for instance 82.3 is NBC hd in my cable system. If your cable provider does not produce these on direct cable then you can not get HD without a box. Try to Auto Program your tv in the cable mode STD format, this can take up to 20 minutes to complete scan including deleting scrambled channels. After programming try the lowest or highest analog channel like 2 or 70, channel down or up from there to see if any digital channels appear.
Go into the menu on the TV and look for a selection that says auto setup or auto channel scan. Once you have an over the air antenna hooked up to it then run this feature. It will automatically pick up the over the air channels. Also check in the menu and see if there is a selection that says cable/over air. You should be able to get to the menu thru the TV remote.
There are two methods to reset TVs. The first is simple to do; a Hard Reset. The other is somewhat skilled; is a Factory Reset (System Reset). To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. If you do this by overnight is better. This procedure will make it a hard reset. If you want to make it a system reset [Factory Reset]; you have to enter its service mode option, and select the factory reset option. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. I'll be glad to assist you in locating the digital channels in the TV. Make sure that the Cable or Antenna Input is connected to the TV. The Cable and Antenna input can be connected to the VHF/UHF Input on the TV. The TV can search for the channels only if the VHF/UHF/CABLE input is connected to the TV. If you're connecting the Cable box or the Satellite Receiver to the Video or HDMI inputs on the TV, then it is not require to auto program the TV. Here, the auto program may be required in the cable box. To Auto Program the TV, select the Manual Channel Search option from the Menu option and then select the CABLE, AIR or Digital Add-On option depends on the connection. The Digital Add-On option adds any new digital channels that are found to the Channel Scan Database. This should resolve the issue. Please feel free to get back to us for further assistance. Thanks for contacting FixYa.

I assume you have analog cable TV service and no cable box. Press MENU button on your TV remote. Go over to CHANNEL SETUP. There are four arrow buttons and a button in the middle of the arrow buttons on the TV remote control. Use these arrow buttons to go up, down, left and right. Use the button in the center to select. TV On-screen menu has Video, then Audio, then Channel Setup.
Cable can be set to ON or OFF, you want to set it ON to get cable channels. Go down to AUTO PROGRAM and select it, press button in the center of arrow keys. A short delay while available channels are searched so be patient. After Auto Program finishes, press MENU to exit. You can perform Auto Program whenever required.
You can also add or skip channels manually. You will discover more options in the TVs menus.
Enter the "menu" and select auto program. This will allow the set to search for all available channels. There is also a possibility that when you hooked it up the little wire center conductor in the cable might have been bent over when you hooked it up. Check that first.
