A recent hardware or software change might have caused this" and it gives me choices: safe mode, safe mode w/networking, last known configuration, or to start windows normailly... but it freezes up and doesn't let me choose...

Configuring updates screen

Try booting up in Safe Mode and see what happens.

Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn it back on and immediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see SAFE MODE. Take the Safe Mode option and let it boot up. Safe Mode will look different to you, the screen will be darker and the icons bigger, this is normal. If it boots up ok, then do a restart into your normal windows mode.

Try running the check disk utility.

To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc or a operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot from it. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with white letters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice the percentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run to completion. Then reboot machine.

If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows. Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs.

In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair when the options appear.

In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recovery console and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.

This looks like the codes from a Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD). If so you will need a system disk to boot from and get to a dos command prompt (black screen with white writing) and type the following command:
chkdsk /r
Check Disk Repair will run for well over an hour and you will see the percentage of completion going from high to low but that is normal. Let it run to completion and then reboot.

In Windows XP to get to the dos command prompt boot from the system disk and when the options come up select Repair. Select 1 for the Windows Operating System and when it asks for the Administrator Password just press enter.

In Windows Vista to get to the dos command prompt boot from the system disk and when the options screen open you could try a startup repair. If it fails look the dos command at the bottom of the Recovery Console.

Restart and keep pressing f8. Select safe mode and see if you can login to safe mode. If that is not possible then keep pressing F10 key to start recovery tools. Just follow instructions on the screen in recovery tool to recover your Notebook back to factory settings.
If there is any important data on the notebook, then use data backup tool in REcovery utility.

Please leave your feedback if issue was recolved

Limited or no connectivity. No assign network Add. to comp.

Have you checked the cable?
Try this with a new cable installed:
Go to Start menu > Run > type "cmd" (without the quotes) and hit Enter or click OK.
In the black DOS-window type "ipconfig/release" (without the quotes) and press Enter.
Type "ipconfig/renew" (without the quotes)
and press Enter.
When the DOS windows displays an IP-number (e.g 192.168.1.2), close the DOS-window and try to connect.
Alternatively right click the network-connection icon down on the far right beside the clock and choose "Repair"
Good luck!

HELP!! (dell precision 340) im getting 4 screens when i turn on m

Reboot into Safe Mode by repeatingly tapping on F8 while in process of rebooting and then select "last known good configuration". If that fails reboot again to safe mode and select safe mode with command prompt and in the command prompt type "chkdsk /f /r " <enter>

If that doesnt work do place your Windows CD into the Cd-Rom, reboot and select option "Repair"
