My towels and cottons are stiff and rough from my LG washer. I have rinsed them many times in vinegar, have used no detergent to try and solve this problem, but to no avail. Please help.

Silverdragon, Thank you for your prompt response. However, we do have a water softener.

  • lamontbea Feb 04, 2010

Yes, but only liquid softeners in the washer. I had a repairman tell me not to use the dryer sheets in the LG dryer as it interfers with the sensors.

Maybe you need to use a water softener? sometimes the water is very "hard" some people even have to use a water conditioning filter on the water in..

Is there a way of adding more water to every wash as all my clothes especially my towels are very stiff when they dry. I am now adding by hand another 8-10 ltrs to every cycle and the problem is solved,...

ok first things first do not add water to the machine this will screw up its timing and pressure switch settings, there is only one reason your clothes are hard and its because you are using to much detergent, do not listen to the directions on the back of the packet its a load of **** its nothing but a marketing ploy to make u use more therefor buy more, with modern front load washers they make them extremely water efficent meaning less water which in turn means you need less detergent, all you need in a front load washer is about 15mg so a small heap roughly the size of a 20 cent piece NO MORE, i am a qualified appliance repairer and the amount of issues caused by the amount of detergant is ridiculous. If you dont believe me (most people dont until shown) try this experiment get your hard dry towels and put them in the washer with no detergent and watch the amount of foam and bubbles you get, ive actually been able to get 3 loads of washing done using one hard dry towel in with it cos the customer put so much detergent in with the towels, hope this helps

White film left on dishes and dirt still on silverware

There are 3 standard answers to solving the white-deposits-on -dishes problem: 1) Use a rinse aid; 2) use less detergent; 3) use vinegar in the washer. If you have hard water, none of these may work, especially if you've had the problem for a while. Because phosphates were ordered removed from dishwasher detergents, hard water minerals can now react with the soap to create a heavy greasy-feeling scum. That scum can build up in the water lines, arms, bottom reservoir, and filter, providing an endless supply of goo to spray on your dishes. This can be fixed. You need to remove and clean out the spray arms, the filters, and especially the array of parts at the bottom of the tub. I've seen up to 1 cup of coagulated/crystallized scum in the bottom of dishwasher tubs. Once you clean out the scum, then run the washer empty with a completely full detergent cup on the highest temperature setting, extra rinse. Before you start it add to the detergent cup 1 teaspoon of TSP(tri-sodium phosphate), a very powerful phosphate cleaner available at hardware stores. Your washer will now have all scum gone from the inner workings. From now on you must always fill both your detergent and pre-wash cups to the max and use a high temperature water setting, extra rinse. Chemically what you're trying to do is adding so much detergent that the scum-forming reaction is overwhelmed by the dispersant action of the detergent, and the extra heat helps this to be more effective. I am not a fan of vinegar in the wash cycle. Why? In some washers the vinegar fumes can reach the exposed contacts of the printed circuit board or touch pad, corrode them, and then your washer won't work at all, along with being very expensive to fix.

Your washer may be doing this because you use far too much detergent or non HE detergent. To solve, use 1 eyedropperfull of liquid HE detergent, or one half teaspoon of powdered HE detergent dissolved in extremely hot water. Try running a Basketclean cycle with vinegar to remove the extra suds which can STILL be lurking in your drums and lengthening your rinsing time.

Hard scratchy towels. Have used all wash cycles, and use fabric softener

have you tried just white vinegar as your rinse aid. Do a full cycle of your washing machine using white vinegar instead of detergent, to clean any residue from pipes, and then in the next wash try white vinegar as your rinse aid.
