Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

While attempting to change the ink cartridge on my HP Officejet J4680 printer Ihad problems putting in the new cartridge. It appears there is a pressure type spring that is a squared "U" with hooks on both ends that let go on one side and is hanging down in the way. Is this something I can easily reposition myself....are there any diagrams that describe the proper positioning for the spring?

I may not have been completely clear on my question. When I removed the cartridge a piece of wire in the square shaped "U" that I described detached from somewhere in the cartridge holder. It is now hanging from one end and blocking the new cartridge from being inserted. I do not know the original positioning of this wire...which I believe provides tension on the cartridge to keep it in place

  • libbys2 Feb 03, 2010

I downloaded the manual and looked through it....but do not see the spring anywhere.

I don't know where I am not being clear enough....but I do not have a problem following the directions for replacing the cartridge....It is just impossible to put the new cartridge in...as directed, because somehow the spring I described came unhooked and prevents the cartridge from being installed. I am not looking for the directions for putting a new cartridge in the printer....I am looking for assistance in properly fixing the spring....so I can follow the installation instructions.

  • libbys2 Feb 05, 2010

I have had several people answer this question by sending me detailed information on the replacement of cartridges....although that was my original intent, I have tried to stress that it is not possible to do because of the u shaped spring that became detached and will now not allow the new cartridge to be installed. I do not need to know how to change the cartridge I need to know what the proper placement of the spring is and how to reconnect that....so I can install the cartridges....which I know how to do

Hello, Libby.

From what I can determine, sounds like you are referring to a cartridge latch. Unfortunately, I've been unable to find any further information.

But, if you take a flashlight, look inside and see where the other side hooks, you may be able to fix it.

Hope this helps.

Are the cartridges used, genuine HP cartridges? I know that on HP and Canon printers that the brand name cartridges seem to work better than the aftermarket ones.

It is not necessary to buy another cartridge my friend, you can repair it. let me show you how... just take a towel paper, pour some water on and slide the cartridge slowly on, repeat this action 3 times and then slide the cartridge on another towel paper without water slowly and get the cartridge back in the printer.
