Question about Dell Dimension 5150 (DIM515MIN) PC Desktop
You are probably right on here.
the 5150 has a temp sensor that is saying that the hard drive is too hot.
In the new PC this sensor is to protect the internal components from damage. If a hard drive is what we call "throttling" then it will generate to much heat and the sensor then kicks in and shut down the voltage to that component and then shuts down the PC.
This issue is usually due to dust deposits around the component or the CPU.
1. Open the case and use compressed air to clean
2. Call Dell tech support and report this issue it also may be a malfunctioning sensor on the Mother board.
3.Dell case are sometimes well engineered for air flow but because of the new processors that are installed which emit a lot of heat due to rapid processing cause the sensors to kick in also and air flow in the cases is vital and dust accumulation is mostly the culprit.

Yes, it probably is the processor over heating, the bios then shuts the system down to save the processor from damage.
The only way to cure this is by taking the heat sink and fan off the processor, wiping all the old coolent solution of the processor and fan then reapply new coolent, this should solve the shuting down issue.
