Ze4365us will not boot from cd

If your laptop will not recognise any cd or dvd that you put into it - a music or movie dvd- it's probably the actual dvd drive at fault. It means that you will have to replace the optical drive for your computer model. This is quite easy to do.

Before buying a new optical drive, try a last-throw solution. Remove the optical drive and power up the computer. Then switch it off. Refit the optical drive and power up the computer, which may detect the refitted optical drive.

However, if you mean that your laptop will recognise the information on a dvd - such as a Windows operating system - but won't boot up from it when you restart the computer it's probably because the computer is set up to set up to boot from the hard drive first.

To change the boot-up order press either DEL of F2 at start up. Go into the bios settings and look for 'boot up sequence'. You'll be able to change the first boot to dvd or usb.

When you start the computer, you can press a key to enter the BIOS, if you do that look at the date and time to see if they are correct, if they are not then the battery is bad. If they are ok then look at the information that shows the hard drive, if the hard drive is not listed, then it has failed. (unless the BIOS does not show that) At any rate, this issue is a hard drive issue and it is either failing or has lost its boot sector information. You can correct a boot sector issue with a windows disk if you have it, but since you did not list the operating system info, that is all I can offer.

Operating system not found

First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.
Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

Sounds like your system is booting from somewhere other than the hard drive or you have a music cd or movie dvd in the DvD/CD drive when you booted the laptop. If so, remove the music cd or movie dvd and reboot.
You want it to boot from the hard drive.

Turn the computer off and press the power button to reboot it. Notice the screen and watch for which key it says to hit to change the Boot Order or Boot Sequence. You have to hit that key when you see the message otherwise it will be to late and you will need to start over. Select the Hard Drive and let it boot up. This is a temporary change and only good for this boot cycle. You'll have to do it each time you boot or you can make it permanent.

To set your boot order or boot sequence permanently reboot the computer and look at the screen to hit the key it says to get into the Bios or System Setup. Hit that key when you see the message or it will be too late and you will have to restart it. When you get into the Bios or System Setup tab over to the Boot Order or Boot Sequence. The normal boot order should be the DvD/CD drive 1st, the Hard Drive 2nd. With this setting you have to make sure nothing is in the DvD/CD drive when you boot the system or it will try to read it as a system disk and give you an error if it can't boot from it. If there is nothing in the DvD/CD drive it moves to the next boot device which is the Hard Drive. This setting is the best because it will allow you to use a Repair Disk or Operating System Disk to fix your computer when the hard drive has issues.

I dont know how to set boot option?

Normally you want to boot from the CD/DvD drive 1st then the Hard Drive 2nd. This is the best way because if the hard drive ever goes bad you can put a operating system disc or repair disc into the drive and boot from it.

Just be careful that when you boot the computer you don't have a music cd or movie dvd in the drive otherwise you might get an error messages saying unbootable device.

Will not move past pre start screen/ operating system not found

Sound like you might be be booting from your hard drive or you might have a music cd or movie dvd in the CD/DvD Drive. When you turn the machine on watch the screen and see what key it says to hit to Change the Boot Sequence or Boot Order, then hit that key while the message is displayed. Select your hard drive as the boot device and then see if it boots.

If it boots you need to reboot and watch the screen again to see what key it says to hit to get into the Bios or System Setup. Once in the Bios or System Setup tab over to the Boot Sequence or Boot Order and make your cd drive the 1st Boot Device and the Hard Drive the 2nd. This will make the change permanent, whereas the change we did before is only for that boot cycle. When you boot just make sure nothing is in the CD/DvD Drive.

My note book starts but then shows blank screen and no button functions

Put a bootable CD into the drive and change the boot order in setup to try to boot from the CD first. If it boots, then you know the problem is with the hard drive or with the operating system on the hard drive. Take the hard drive out and slave it to a working computer. Make sure it is the same operating system. You can get an adapter for the cable connection from your local computer store for about $15.00. If you can read the drive on the other computer, then you know the problem is the operating system. Burn all your files to CD or DVD while you have it slaved to the other computer then put the hard drive back into your laptop and then run your recovery discs. After you reinstall the operating system you can reload all your files. If you cannot read the drive when you have it slaved to the other computer, then the drive is toast and needs to be replaced. I hope you have backed up your files regularly.
