Re: TV SHUTS OFF BY ITSELF
There is a infra red emmiting diode inside that has failed. this is the diode just under the prism inside the unit. replace that and re-time the mode switch. the unit is not made by philips but by funai so no support can be given to you from philips. I've repaired close to 60 of these with the same problem you have.

1) this a difficult matter since the VHS TAPE is inside.Try to unplugged the EQUIPMENT many times and eject the button for to see if eject the TAPE. 2) put a little of alcohol with a jeringa in switch eject, and try it. 3) if this do not RESOLVE the problem, you take to cut the tape, or dissasembley the section, or go to some repair shop TV for fix it. Remember unplugged the power cord before to do anything inside of equipment. You have the option too to call to the supplier and get customer support via online chat for help, or service.
if VHS tape is in you have only one solution..to disassemble DVD/VCR ..Can you do it ? you may try !!t
Here's how to do it.. * 1 Turn off the COMBO. and unplug it. * 2 Remove the
4x screws off COMBO on the sides and take off the DVD/VCR casing. * 3 Look for the Tape which messed up with VCR transport mechanism ,try to release tape of the transport with your hand..
* 4 Since EJECT feature works with power only ,while you keep the
tape off from transport plug the device to power and turn it on..Don't
worry, you will see the eject mechanism starts moving back on forth, keep
the tape off it and let it eject..
* 5.When tape is out .If it
destroyed badly normally you should not use it however if the recording
in is valuable for you you can cut the chewed portion and splice it back together .(Pls see the video included...How to fix a broken VHS tape.) * 6 While it is open, place another Tape to see if mechanism works properly. and eject it... * 7 Replace the casing and the screws. Plug the player in and turn it on. Now player is finally working .. Hope this helps!.. I push the VHS Cartridge in, it drops down to the play position, the front door opens, the tape comes out, it goes around the chrome wheel that is spinning, but it will not play, will not rewind, will not fast forward. It then shows "Error" and the machine shuts off, with the tape still around the chrome wheel, When I turn the machine back on, the VHS Cartridge ejects from the machine. This machine has been used very little, I loaned it to my Son In Law and it came back with the VHS Tape Deck not playing. I have the machine open, so I can see what it is doing.
some of these things are very fussy as to what blank dvd media you have put in them. try a few other brands. On my philips you can designate what signals are going to and from each connection so go through your manual again checking all your input/output connections are correct and you have selected the right function
the tape is now jammed. stop trying to get it out because it will be destroyed. To rescue the tape now without damage, the tv-man has to open the set and from there un-stick this tape. after that a service is needed in the belts of that machine. The set now is in the middle of this process and maybe this symptom creates the set to shut down after some seconds after because the microprocessor is protecting the complete set integrity.
VCR is set with blank tape..Bring up vcr control on TV with television set on Chanel #3, go to menu
Follows procedure for progamming date, time start, time finish, chanel and.speed and single recording.finally click on menu and turn vcr off. Vcr lights indicate set for taping,,.Does no start to tape at requested time and lights indication taping ready stays on ??????
