Thank you for your assistance but it did not help much. I called a local service person who suggested I try wiping the carrier rods with 3 in 1 oil which solved the problem.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. From what you have described it seems that you might require it to be cleaned from inside, while cleaning if you want to use an oil, just use non detergent electric motor oil. Also the motor can be lubed however the carrier Return works by a cam mechanism, a series of spring loaded latches and a spring clutch-- quite complicated for the uninitiated. So it’ll be good if you get this job done by a professional as you have to open the unit to clean everything up. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Selectric II Pitch-shift lever won't change from 12 tom 10

If you haven't changed the pitch for a long time the lubricants dry up, if you have some WD40 spray it in the slot inthe margin bar where the L. & R. margin levers ride. Give it a few minites to work.

IBM selectric II carriage stuck in right margin

There is a thin metal ribbon in the back that has come off the wheel. It is a devel of a thing to get back on.

Remove the cover and watch ... you will see what I am talking about.

It may have come un-attached ... equally difficult to fix without the little thingie the typewirter mechanic uses.

good luck

My IBM selectric II typewriter carriage stuck in right margin

Sounds like the return lever arm is not putting enough pressure on the return clutch, or the clutch is slipping. The exp key uses the same clutch but the pressure comes from your finger. Theres no way you can fix this yourself. Get an IBM mechanic.

IBM Selectric II-return goes past the margin stop

The margin release mech. is probably gummy and allowing returns to go past the margin. If thi is a dual pitch machine see if the pitch selector lever will move easily. If not use some WD40 on the margin rack.

Coronomatic 2200 carriage return stops advancing

It sounds like you are coming up against your right margin. By hitting release you are merely bypassing the margin. You might try resetting your right margin by clearing it all the way to the right side of the carriage first then resetting it to where you want it.

Carriage return problem

If it returns with the express key the latching mech. on the rt. side is probably gummy. Take off the case, get some WD40 and spray the mechinism that latches the ret on the rt. side below the platen.

Return sticks

Try putting a few drops of light oil on the shaft that the carrier rides on and the pulleys that the cables are on (WD40 works well) also look for debris under the carrier.
