Question about Exercise & Fitness

Proform 840 belt feels bumpy when in motion. Treadmill is over 10 years old, but has not been used regularly over those years. I started to use again a few months ago for running and very occasionally would feel it slip a little. The last time I tried to start it, the belt felt bumpy under my feet. It was a different feeling than before when it would slip, because this is constant, with every step and it feels like there are bumps in the belt. I am trying to determine if this is even worth repair. I purchased this from Sears and they want to charge me $100 just to come out and diagnose what the problem is. From the description I'm giving, are you able to ball park what the problem might be and what the parts typically run? Thanks so much.

I don't think it needs a part - I believe the walking belt just needs to be adjusted - if you don't know how to do this then give me a call and perhaps I can walk you through it - my name is Dewayne

Hi, our proform 790 tr treadmill is aorund six years old and the walking belt and height motor seem to be going. Is it worth replacing these and is it fairly straightforward?

Changing a walking belt takes about an hour for someone who has done it before. Check the walking deck for scratches, damage as well. Often times if the belt is worn out, the deck needs to be replaced as well. Belts vary in price depending on the make and model of treadmill. Parts can be ordered by calling the number found on the model number sticker on the treadmill. There are 10 different machines with the 790t model name. To get the correct parts find the actual model number (will start with "H"). The parts come with replacement instructions.
Belt $105 Deck $190
As for the incline motor, it is very rare to change that part. It may just require calibration. Start the machine . Press incline up and hold, remove the safety key. Now reinsert the safety key. The machine should rise to full incline then back down to minimum. Once the cycle is complete, the treadmill should work normally. If the incline sensor is defective, the motor will have to be replaced. Incline motor $150.

When I run on my 620 it feels like it slips and I almost fall, like I'm running in my socks on a tile floor. This just started happening and now I can't use it at all, is there something I can tighten?

You mean front- to-back or side- to-side?

If its side to side, adjust the allen bolts at the bottom front of the treadmill. If its front to back, and your treadmill is at least a few years old, the belt is probably stretched and needs replacing. You can get a quote for a new belt at http://www.treadmill-world.com/parts-manuals.html

My treadmill is slipping when i get on the belt. Tell me what could be the problem?

If your treadmill is about two years old and you've been using it a lot, it probably needs a new belt. You can order a new one at Treadmill Parts.

The walking belt on my Proform 620 weight loss treadmill is very slick, almost dangerous

Hi there,

You can usually find the screws to tighten the belt at the back of the machine - but be careful not to tighten too much. A quarter turn may be all that is needed. A gentle tug will get the belt back into alignment if it is askew. Remember that if you have trouble tightening or realigning the belt, you should seek advice from the manufacturer or the fitness store where you bought your treadmill exercise equipment.

Most new treadmill machines do not require belt lubrication, and therefore you should only lubricate your belt if the manufacturer specifically recommends it. Most of the manufacturers who do recommend regular lubrication sell kits with instructions and all the equipment you need to make quick work of the task.

Post further comments for more help or information.....

Good Luck!!

Thanks

Belt makes noise, like it is scrapping something!

Do you have a three year old in the house?? Our ProForm 795 treadmill started making noise when the belt was rotating. Come to find out, he had hidden a plastic clothes hanger inside where the drive roller spins the belt. That was our scaping noise.
Otherwise, is your belt tensioned correctly? If not, it could be tracking to one side or the other.

Proform Crosswalk Dual Motion Cross Trainer Treadmill. motor works great. Rubber on right side under the moving belt has come off so belt slips when in use

I think you are talking about the front roller. It has a rubber sleeve that helps to grip the walking belt. Sometimes you can tighten this enough to keep it from slipping but you run the risk of overtightening and damaging both rollers. We recomend replacing that roller.
