Bose P1 - lost backlight

I seem to have lost the backlight for the LCD display for my Bose Lifestyle 50. When I wrote Bose support, they suggested I hold down the On/Off button til I saw CA: and after that drr. Holding down the On/Off accomplishes nothing. Nothing happens. Anyone have another idea?

Bose support repaired two P1 remotes for me. The first one they did for free (well out of the warranty period). The second one in the last 18 months cost $50 for a complete rebuild, new case, etc.

It is likely the backlight has failed which is quite common on these units.  I had mine repaired with a new backlight.

Hello,
I have the same problem that occurred recently and took it apart to check it out. I looks like there is still power running to the backlight, but the backlight sheet has some bad cells at the contact end and only lights up a line about an inch long. Is there a way to pass this section and have the whole indiglo sheet light up again?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Yes, I had this problem and after years of searching for the answers here and else where on the internet, I just investigated myself and found a perfect solution relatively cheaply. Buy a new electro luminescent strip from Bose (about £30 including delivery) take out the batteries, undo all screws on the back of the remote and open it up. Carefully remove the ribbon cable from the clamp and the connector cable from its clip to get easier access to the PCB holding the LCD. Behind the LCD and above the PCB is where the faulty electro luminescent strip is located. To get to this you need to remove the metal frame surrounding the LCD panel by twisting horizontal the 8 or so metal clamps to allow the frame to be removed from the PCB. Now instead of removing the old strip stuck on behind the LCD, I just snipped off the 2 terminals on the old strip with scissors, unsoldered and removed the 2 contacts from the old strip leaving the rest of the strip still attached/glued. I then slipped the new strip directly on top of the old one and soldered the 2 new terminals on to the PCB. Put it all back together and hep presto, a lovely new backlit screen - wish I'd done it years ago! J

My lifestyle 50 M1 interface is displaying "No response". I have tried all the standard reboot options but apparently I need to replace the capacitors. Can anyone tell me the values of these?

Terry,

I have had the same issue with LS50 for some time and stumble last night on the blog: https://blogteramod.wordpress.com/2015/05/18/lifestyle-50-no-response-quick-repair/

It is written in German though the detail worked perfectly for me this morning.
Bottom line is that they suggest you replace on the P1 unit 4 x caps (C9- 47uF 16V, C10-47uF 16V, C17-10uF 25V, C18-10uF 35V).
I did the work on my unit this morning and all is good - remote now connects immediately to P1 (as it did when new).

Hope that's useful.

I have a Bose LifeStyle 18, when I turn off, in the display appear "LifeStyle System" What is happening?

Normally your system should save its preferences and subsequently switch off. I suggest you completely unplug the system, wait for one minute and plug the system back in. it should start up with a message Lifestyle system XXX and then be available. If it does not start up with this message, I suggest you call Bose and ask for your system to be picked up for repair.

BOSE LIFESTYLE 50 REMOTE CONTROL NOT WORKING

FOR THE BOSE LIFESTYLE 50 SYSTEM (Model P1 - Personal Music Center remote)
You can re-calibrate the remote first by following the steps below:
1. press and hold down on the display screen in the top middle area of the remote
2. After a few seconds the word CAL will appear in the middle and the word SOURCE will appear in the top left area of the remote.
3. Press the SOURCE button.
4. The word KEYPAD will appear in the top right area of the remote
5. Press the KEYPAD button and a small circle will appear in the bottom right of the remote.
6. Press the Circle
This should've recalibrated the remote.
If you need to relink the remote to the system, HOLD down the mute button while having the remote as close as possible to the unit. You will hear a beep . Release the button, after a pause , you will hear the remote beep twice.
This re-links the remote to your system
If the backlight is not working, your options are
1. Spend $349 and get a new one from Bose Or
2.Spend $220 and get a used one on E-bayOR
3. Use your remote with the lights on so that you can see the display :-)...the cheapest way OR Invest in an LED Book light that you can clamp on the remote and use that for your light ($9.99)

I had the same problem as this, but have lost my remote, so the system is know useles. Any way back to the point if you wiggle the cable around that goes in the speaker zone port then turn it off and back on then it should work :-D.

Water damage on these types of devices is rarely recoverable.

You can contact Bose directly to enquire about how to order spare parts.
