Rewinding causes loss of settings

When I rewind a tape the VCR does the rewind OK but then looses it's settings (clock and so forth) and turns itself off. Visible rewind does not do this. Is there an EEPROM reset of some sort or may it be something else?

Thank you so much for the answer you provided. I had not thought about opening it up although I've done so in the past going back to my beta VCR days and cleaning the tape path. I even still have a working beta hifi unit, but I digress. I'm not sure about the sensor and the tape end or beginning because there is probably more oging on here. I was messing with the deck last night and noticed that it may be somehow tied to the tape counter. When I put a tape in that is not necessarily at the very start of the tape and play, then fast rewind, it'll go back to around the 0000 mark and stop, turn itself off zeroing out the clock. Last night it would even turn itself back on and then off again after the initial shut off after rewind. The deck has not had much use and was a demo at Circuit City when I purchased it 3 - 4 years ago, but has had this problem since I got it. Should have sent it in under warranty, but didn't. Anyway, any other thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Bob

Does this deck reset itself at any other time?

Hi,

It is normal for the counter to have errors on reading ( clock counter )

during rewinding.

Usually we use other ( separate ) Rewinders just for the purpose of

rewinding , and some have forward too.

It lessens the burden or loads on the motors and gears.

Hi,
In my opinion, tape end sensor sounds defective or got blind for some reason that is why it does not detect end part of tape which is transparent to send center IR LED light towards end sensor. Check end sensor should be clean, or replace it to fix problem.
VCR turns off due to rewind error as tape reaches an end but motor still powering the gears because system control chip does not receive end sensor signal about tape end to stop motor, so it is an error and vcr shuts down.

VHS cassette (or any other recording cassette) has small transparent tape part at start and end of entire recording tape to provide IR LED light towards either start or end sensor.
IR LED is located right in center of cassette compartment.
Below image shows IR LED, start and end sensor locations, it is just an example to have an idea.

Let me know if you have additional question.
Thanks.

Press "play" and then "stop". This will not hurt the player unless its tape transport systems are broken.

I have a couple VHS-C tapes that drag

This may be caused by a faulty adapter. 1. try playing in the camera. 2. try a different tape. 3. try a different adapter.99% this is a problem with the adapter or the tape. It really sounds like the tape isn't turning freely, which can be caused by a brake sticking, or spindle in the tape or adapter.

I was rewinding a tape and the VCR just stopped. When I hit either play or rewind the VCR makes a kind of whine or grinding sound and then the following message appears in the display: 3L 22 AA. What...

Have you tried ejecting the tape?

If the cassette will not eject, the tape is probably fouled on the capstans and will need to be "surgically" removed, VERY CAREFULLY from the machine.

Tape ejects after playing for about 30 minutes

it could be dirty pinch rollers causing the tapes to tighten and be ejected. try fast forarding the tape to the end and rewinding. if this does not cure the problem, run a wet cleaner tape through.

VCR ejecting my cassettes

Try removing the top cover & have a look to see what happens when you put the tape in & press play/rewind etc. Is the take up spool (right hand spool) turning properly or is there slack tape not being taken into the cassette? Are the heads spinning ? I think your problem is more likely to do with the tape not travelling smoothly around the tape path. Possibly the clutch gears need cleaned or the soft brakes may not be dis-engaging properly.

After vhs auto rewinds both it and TV power down

some televisions have a feature where the video signal disappears, they power off.when the vcr shuts off,the signal goes and the tv shuts down

Tape is stuck in the vcr and when you turn on the power it turns the tape about 10 seconds and then shuts off the power.

if the tape has snagged inside, the only way to get it out is to take the top of the vcr off and manually remove it. very simple procedure. only use your fingers and not anything sharp. have you tried rewinding the tape (from STOP mode) sometimes tapes can end up being wound very tight which would have the same effect. if you can rewind do so, then fast forward until tape stops, repeat this a few times this should loosen the tape.

DSR 11 playback problem

Pete, we are having the same problem with 2 dsr-11s.

The fix for us was the "auto repeat" switch on the back of the unit. It was "on" please turn it off.

The other idea was that the tape tension is very sensitive in the units, try exercising the tape (though exorcise might be good too) by fast-forwarding then rewind the tape start to finish. Tape that were tightly wound at the factory can cause this proble as well. Good Luck. Greg VA

8mm Tape stops when rewinding

try this:
some cameras have a memory where they begin make sure the memory is off or cleared then try to rewind or try fwd to end clear memory then rewind tape...

now sometime tapes of 120 are really not recommended because of the load of tape amd ost have a tension sensor 60m is usually the best recommended
