I have a Brother MFC 420CN and I have black ink in the printer but it won't print in black. The page sounds like it is printing and it sends out the paper but anything that is supposed to be black is left blank. Can anyone help?

Unfortunately, I got mine from the Good Will. But it looks like a good printer. All I know is, it's out of ink.

Stopped moving the print head or are there no colors/ink anymore on paper or does the machine to refuse power up?

1. + 3.: main circuit board defective = you need a new mfc.

2.: Did you use generic ink carts? They might have clogged the ph. Use original brother ink and run the cleaning cycles 3 times.

Hi,

One of the main reasons for printing issue is the presence of corrupted or updated drivers in the system. For proper working of Brother printer, users are recommended to update the printer driver software. The outdated drivers may popup error messages and may result in serious malfunctioning of the printers. Users may need to ensure that they choose the correct and corruption free drivers for the printers from the genuine websites.

Will act like it is printing, but puts no ink on paper. Using factory cartiages.

What should I do?

HOW DO I un-lock the scanner on a Brother MFC 7420?

Unfortunately, the MFC-7420 doesn't have a physical lock switch. You need to turn off the all-in-one and wait for the unit to clear its memory. If the error recurs after you press the power button again, wait 30 minutes and try again. (Note: you will lose any faxes that are in memory. See the User Guide page 11-5 to save this information.) You can find the manual on the Brother support page for the MFC-7420: https://www.brother-usa.com/support/ModelInfo.aspx?R3ModelID=MFC7420 . Click on the Manuals & Documents tab. Then click on the Manuals on our Online Solution Center for the English version of the manual. The direct link to the User Guide is currently: http://download.brother.com/welcome/doc000387/ALLFB_UsaEngUsr_B.pdf .

You can also try unplugging the all-in-one for several minutes to reset the error codes. If the error persists, contact Brother if the MFC-7420 is still under warranty (1 year). If it isn't under warranty, consider replacing the unit. The repair costs may be unreasonable.

I hope this helps.

BROTHER P-TOUCH IS not printing

It is obvious it has a failed electronic component, since these are not repaired/exchanged except when they are under warranty best thing to do is just replace it.

Prinnter not printing but showing 'put custom in manual tray'

There is still a print job in the queue. Place a sheet so it prints or kill the job.

Open Printers and Faxes. Open printer. Highlight jobs and Right click > Cancel, or Documents > Cancel.
For those stubborn jobs, Right click My Computer > Manage. Choose Services and Applications > Services > Print Spooler. Right click and stop. Then start. This may have to be done from the Print Server if it's network printer. Contact IT to kill.

Laser printer makes light clicking noise when idle

When idle is potentially the fuser unit, after heating and cooling. However the print quality issue associated with the clicking sound could indicate an electrical issue. The HVPS maybe faulty causing the print quality issue (due to dependant parts) and the electrical click. In any case I would recommend calling Brother and finding the nearest authorised service agent.
