Have you tried blowing air backwards through it? Where I live we have very hard water and often these types of things can be repaired by simply blowing backwards which dislodges the calcium blocking it.
Hello. In order to restore the original performance you will have to replace the diverter. If you remove the valve and don't replace it at all you will not be happy as you will always have water pouring out of the faucet while the sprayer is in use. Regards, Joe

You're right, of course. I removed the diverter, and compared it to a "universal" spray diverter part from Home Depot and they don't compare. Mine doesn't seem to have any position where water can move freely between the chamber and the hose. The little piston fits very tightly, and the actuator plug is rimmed by a rubber o-ring making a tight seal. Looks like a bad design. Maybe I should remove the o-ring?
